"Bye dad! Love you!" I called out as I grabbed my backpack and headed to the bus to hell.
I was good at school grade wise, but I hated school. I didn't exactly have friends and was definitely known by all the bullies as "the one" which meant I was endlessly tormented. My best friend, at one point, had been probably the kindest person on the planet until the end of eighth grade when she and her family moved to Maryland and we lost touch.
After she left I really had no one else except my dad. Most seniors avoid their parents at all costs, but he's all I have, pretty much my best friend. And I never met my mom anyway, my dad was an only child and my grandparents are mental. He's literally all I have left.
"Bye sweaty, love you too." I heard my dad call out as I closed the door behind me.
Taking a deep breath I mentally prepared myself for yet another day in the torturous place so commonly referred to as school. Even nerds didn't like me, apparently I was "to" good. Whatever.
I kept my head down as I trudged to the bus, using my long straight ash brown hair to hide my face. Hoping to God that no one would talk to me. Besides the only "talking" that ever happened was me being made fun of, or questioned rhetorically.
"Hey princess!" One of my usual tormentors called. Oh how I wished it was just a good natured pet name. But the way he said it was enough to make my skin crawl as I knew he meant it in a derogatory way.
Refusing to acknowledge him I simply titled my head farther down, wishing I were truly invisible.
"Princess!" He called again, I could hear the coldness of his voice as he continued to approach. Probably strutting like he owned the town. He was by far the worst of the bullying crew as I called them, he was like their gang leader. Ryan Douglas, the leader of the jerks.
Come faster, come faster, please, I thought desperately as the bus still hadn't come.
I felt his death grip on my shoulder, "are you ignoring me?" Ryan pestered in an edgy tone.
I squirmed out of his disgusting hold, shrinking away toward the edge of the curb.
Seeing the bus at the end of the street, my heart beat quickened, thank god the bus is almost here!
"Guys, she's actually ignoring me," Ryan stated with an almost laughing tone as if he couldn't believe this odd phenomenon that happened everyday, "you know what this means."
I braced myself, I knew what would come next, they'd shove me and tease me and try to get a reaction. Or at least that's what they'd always done before....
"Princess," Ryan whispered next to my ear, making my shiver in fear, "why are you ignoring me?" He questioned, lacing his arms around my waist from behind and swaying slightly.
I stood stone still and rigid like a board of wood, whispering, "what do you want Ryan?"
"I want to know why you were ignoring me" he stated cooly, I could almost hear the smirk I knew he was wearing.
To my relief the bus brakes screeched to a halt, distracting him and his group. I twisted myself free and darted into the bus.
All the passer-by people, the ones who watch people like me get bullied but do nothing, filed into the bus filling empty seats. Shrinking down in my seat, I sighed in relief when Ryan walked past and didn't spot me.
Dodged the bullet, I thought with an inaudible sigh.
I watched the bus doors swing shut as the driver started the bus, heading for school. Or in other words my doom.
