My dad woke me up bright and early Sunday morning, informing me that we'd be going out to eat for breakfast.
I sleepily agreed, figuring I'd deal with getting to Cole's house later.
Quickly getting dressed, I put on a sky blue skater skirt and a white graphic crop top which ironically said "sky's the limit".
My dad met me in the garage, I hopped into the car and switched on the radio to 92.5.
"Where do you wanna eat?" My dad asked as he started the car and pulled out of our driveway.
Thinking for a moment, I remember one of my favorite breakfast places, "how bout Mel's café?"
He nodded in agreement, "ok, we haven't been there for awhile."
I stared out the window, singing along to my favorite song by Relient K.
The drive was short, and Mel's café wasn't all that busy so we were seated right away.
A preppy, overly and fakely preppy, waitress with an extremely high ponytail walked up to our table, "can I get you anything to drink besides water?"
"I'll have coffee." my dad said with his usual warm smile.
"And for you?" She looked toward me.
"Grape juice." I told her with a slight nod as I returned to flipping through the menu.
She wrote down our drinks as she walked off, probably to the kitchen.
We looked through our menus in silence for a few minutes before closing them and waving to our preppy waitress.
"Your decided right?" My dad asked me as the waitress came toward our table with our drinks.
"Yep," I nodded, "are you."
"Mmhmm."
The waitress set our drinks down and pulled out her notepad thing that they write orders on.
"Alright, you guys ready to order?" Our waitress asked, fidgeting with her dark hair as she waited.
She couldn't have been much older than I was, if not the same age. Weird.
"I'll have the red velvet pancakes." I handed her my menu as she jotted down the order.
"And you sir?" She asked, turning toward my dad while fixing her cherry red lipstick with her free hand.
"I'll have the omelette special." my dad handed her his menu as she finished writing the order.
I couldn't figure out why but she just seemed like she wasn't the type to work at an old nice diner like Mel's. Well for one she was wearing black short shorts which is unusual for a waitress while they're at work.
She had a dramatic cat-eye eyeliner, a nose piercing, bright cherry red lipstick and a flawless complexion. Not to mention the fact that without her waitress apron, her crop top would've been showing her stomach, again very odd.
Not that she looked weird, she was definitely beautiful, it was just that she looked vaguely familiar.... I just couldn't figure out why...
"Molly?" I heard my dads voice, snapping me out of thought and back into reality.
"Yeah?" I said with a shake of my head as I dismissed the oddities about our waitress.
"You were staring off," my dad said with a small chuckle, "what's on your mind?"
"Oh nothing," I shook my head, "just thought our waitress was dressed a little oddly..."
My dad smiled, picking up on my sense of oddness, "you mean a little slutty? That kind of odd?"
