Flipping on the tv, I spent the morning watching the news as they went more in depth talking about how the company was plummeting. Shaking my head, I turned it off, it was just depressing.
I decided instead to try on dresses. Why? Because I'm a child at heart and because why not. I don't care if I'm to old to do dress up, I think it's fun.
Sifting through my closet, I pulled out a sparkly dress. The bodice covered in variously sized rhinestones and glitter with a full tulle skirt. The skirt part was an emerald green and came to just above my knee. I spun around a couple times before returning to my closet and digging through for another dress.
I pulled on a floor length gown that was loose and flow-y from the waist down. The sweetheart neckline was edged in gems, and the fabric was a dark purple orchid color.
Doing a 360, I jogged back to my closet pulling out yet another dress. I pulled on the dress, it was similar to the first. Though this one was a strapless sweetheart neckline and the first had been a spaghetti strap with a straight across neckline.
I spun in the mirror, the teal tulle skirt flaring out for a moment. The silvery bejeweled bodice sparkled, reflecting the light from my ceiling.
Hearing a knock on the window, I spun around, spotting Cole outside my window.
"Hey" I greeted as I pulled open the window.
"Watcha doin?" He asked pointing to my dress.
I shrugged, "trying on dresses."
He smiled, climbing through the window and sitting on the window seal. Cole twirled his finger, motioning for me to spin. I did a 360 again.
He nodded in approval, "it's nice, I like it."
I smiled a bit, "it's my favorite one."
Since I was in the clothing mood, I looked closer at Cole's outfit. He was wearing a grayish blue v-neck t-shirt, faded black jeans and a brown leather bracelet. He looked perfectly boyishly charming in my opinion.
"You look like a princess" he smiled getting up and holding out a hand.
I took his hand as he wandered into the kitchen turning on the stereo and spinning me. My uncontrollable grin returned as we danced across the kitchen just because.
Cole spun me again, then spun me out and back to his chest. I smiled up at him as he repeated it over and over. Spinning me away from him then back to him.
I never knew I liked dancing so much, probably cause I'd never had anyone to dance with before.
"Did anyone ever tell you that your smile is beautiful?" He asked, being open again and letting his guard down. I loved when he was like that.
"No" I smiled, "just you."
He spun me again, nodding, "well now you know." He spun me back to him, this time moving his arms down to wrap around my waist. Leaning down he kissed me, he'd been doing that a lot the last few days. Not that I was complaining, I loved it.
Just as I thought the moment was perfect, the front door burst open. Cole and I pulled apart, turning quickly toward the door. My dad stood in the door way looking out of breath. He glanced between the two of us, I looked down realizing Cole was still holding my hand.
I pulled my hand out of his, putting both of mine behind my back trying to look innocent.
"Molly?" My dad stared at me, looking shocked, but his gaze quickly shifted to Cole who he glared at. Cole didn't look bother in the slightest, he just stared right back with his charming smile.
"Hey dad." I put on a completely fake smile, tilting my head slightly.
"No, no no no," he glared pointedly back at Cole, "your are not ruining my daughter!"
"What are you talking about?" I asked, staring at my dad with a confused look.
"You've been skipping school Molly, and I got a call from an officer saying you were arrested on vandalism charges!" My dad explained, looking amazed in an angry way.
"Oh." I muttered, looking down at my feet.
"Yeah oh! I called Cole's mom out of curiosity and she said Cole was skipping school to so I put two and two together." He looked back and forth between the two of us, "Cole is bad influence on you!"
"He's a bad influence?!" I yelled in a outraged tone, "what about you?! Your getting charges pressed for robbery and money laundering!"
"I-" he stopped abruptly, looking alarmed, "how do you know about that?"
"Believe it or not I actually watched the news." I dead panned, narrowing my eyes at him.
He tapped his foot nervously, "I'm sorry Molly, I thought it'd end up ok."
"Just like your lie about mom? I found the file, I know exactly what happened. Have you been lying about everything my whole life?" I interrogated, staring at him with a hurt look.
He sighed, "I'm really sorry Molly, I know I let you down, I just wanted to protect you. But I never lied about who much you mean to me, I love you more than anything and I only lied about things so that we could be close."
I shook my head, a tear rolling down my cheek, "well it backfired. I've lost all respect I used to have for you and I don't feel closer to you. I feel betrayed and like you didn't care enough to tell me the truth!"
"Molly, I'm sorry..." My dad walked toward me, open arms as if he expected me to run to him and cry on his shoulder.
Shaking my head, jaw clenched, I felt hot tears roll down my cheeks, "it's to late dad. I've lost all respect I had for you and I'm done bending over backward to follow rules and make you happy; since you obviously don't care about rules or my happiness!"
Taking a shaky breath, I walked back to my room, Cole trailing slightly behind. I slammed the door after Cole and I were both inside.
Cole wrapped me into a tight, protective hug, whispering in my ear, "it's ok."
I locked my arms around his neck, "no it's not! My whole life is so messed up!"
Cole kept his arms around me, gently rubbing my back.
"Thanks." I pulled back staring into his eyes.
"Anytime." He smiled, his eyes glistening.
That was my breaking point, I couldn't take anything more. I'd spent my life being a good girl aside from my recent times with Cole. But even then I had the voice in the back of my head reminding me that my dad would be disappointed. That voice was gone now, I no longer cared what my dad thought.
"To hell with rules." I stated in a slightly bitter tone, "I'm done being good, so what else do you do and not get caught?"
Cole's mouth curled in a devious grin, "oh there's plenty of things, wanna learn?"
"Definitely." I agreed, matching his devious smirk as we climbed out the window.
