Something new

I'd spent the rest of the week wondering what it was that Cole thought I couldn't handle.

Since my dad had the day shift today, Saturday, I intended to find out what it was and prove that I could do it.

After my dad headed out for work, I changed into my black ripped jeans that I almost never wore, and my grey hoodie which I always wore.

I quickly put on my black vans before jogging toward Cole's house, he had some answering to do.

Walking up the front steps, I knocked on his door, feeling confident and ready to prove I could be edgy.

Mrs. Huntley answered giving a warm yet surprised smile, "hi Molly."

"Hi mrs.huntley," I greeted, returning her smile, "is Cole home?"

She nodded, "yeah he's in the back yard, you can let yourself in."

I thanked her as the door closed and I jogged to the gate.

Unlatching the gate, I walked slowly into their backyard, looking for Cole.

After a couple minutes of looking around, I spotted him sitting on the fence wearing a black muscle tank and dark blue jeans. He staring into the distance and drinking from a half empty beer bottle.

"Cole." I called out, jogging up to him.

His head snapped toward me with a confused glare as he took another swig from the half empty bottle, "what do you want?" Cole groaned.

I looked up at him as I stood next to the fence, "I'm gonna prove I can do whatever you consider being edgy."

Cole raised an eyebrow, "ok, first you have to get up on the fence."

The fence came up to just above my eye level and didn't appear to be easy to climb up. Taking a deep breath of determination, I grabbed onto the top of the fence, jumping and trying to pull myself up.

My hands slipped and I fell to the ground landing on my butt, frowning in disappointment and embarrassment.

Cole burst out laughing as I sat there, "well, try again!"

I hoisted myself off the ground, getting a good grip on the fence and attempting to climb it like a rock wall. For a moment it felt like I would make it, I was almost there when Cole reached over and pulled my hands up off the fence, letting me fall back down.

He grinned, chuckling as I glared at him from the ground.

Cole finished laughing before setting the bottle on the fence and holding out a hand, "ok, I'll help you up."

I glared at him but stood up and grabbed onto his hand, holding the fence with my other hand.

He has really warm hands, I thought with and inward smile, but not sweaty warm just nice warm.

He pulled me up onto the fence with ease before letting go of my hand and picking back up the bottle.

For a moment I just sat there, looking around at the difference in view from about 5 and a half feet up.

"Ok, now that your on the fence," Cole started, pausing to take another sip, "the first thing you have to do to be edgy is take a sip."

I stared at him suspiciously, "...of what?..."

He held out the mostly empty beer bottle, "this."

Immediately I shook my head, "no way."

"Told you that you couldn't handle it." Cole said triumphantly, lifting it back to his lips.

I bit my lip, what was I willing to do to prove I was edgy?

Ugh, I thought in indecision, this goes against like everything about me! But he can't win!

Just when I was about to jump down and resign myself to being stuck a good girl for all eternity, something took else over. I abruptly reached over, grabbing the bottle from him and gulping down a sip of the gross tasting liquid.

"Ew." I muttered, handing it back to him.

Cole smirked taking the last sip and chucking the bottle toward the neighbors house, "I'm impressed."

"I'm disgusted." I replied, trying not to gag on the lingering taste.

He laughed, "but that doesn't prove your edgy, not yet."

I stared at him in shock, "what else do I have to do?!"

Cole grinned, "oh you couldn't handle it."

Giving him a death glare, I folded my arms in defiance.

Though I hadn't realized I'd been holding onto the fence. Now that my arms were crossed, I wasn't gripping the fence anymore and I lost my balance.

"Woah!" I shrieked as I tumbled backward off the fence.

Cole smirked down at me, "nice. Come back tomorrow if you want to prove your edgy, then I'll show you the next thing."

Getting up, I dusted the dirt off my pants, giving him a half hearted glare, "we'll see about that." I called over my shoulder trying to sound mysterious.

"Don't come then, see if I care wether or not you stay a good girl." Cole called back with a shrug as he vaulted off the fence into the neighbors yard.

I looked back over my shoulder, watching him run through their yard and out the gate, off to who knows where.

Smiling to myself, I jogged back home with just enough time to change clothes before my dad got back.

Quickly changing into a floral print skater style skirt and a black tank top, I flopped down on the couch and flipped on the tv just before my dad arrived.

"Hey Molly!" My dad called as he closed the door behind him.

Pretending to be engrossed in the TV, I took a second before responding, "hey dad, how was work?"

"Good, did you watch tv the whole time?"

"N-" I started before quickly catching myself, "yeah I did."

My dad gave me a suspicious look as he took a seat next to me on the couch, "why the hesitation?"

"I-uh also played around with my makeup cause I got bored, but mostly I watched tv." I lied, faking an embarrassed smile.

My dad patted me on the back with a grin as he got up, "well at least you were being creative"

I nodded and quickly added, "yep, good old fun with creativity."

He smiled as he brought dinner to the table and I helped him get the plates.

We talked about the usual over dinner; work, plans for the week, ideas for what to do tomorrow....

Oh.

I forgot about my plans to go over to Cole's house again tomorrow as me and my dad planned our Sunday together. Now I was double booked, my dad and Cole. Maybe I could just do both....?

This was gonna be tricky.
