After spending Sunday with my dad and having a plain and uneventful Monday, I found myself craving something new. Something interesting, something that felt like living on the edge. I needed a new source of thrills since being a know it all had lost it's luster.
Though I felt bad about lying to my dad, I had to, I was drowning in a continuous sense of boredom.
"Dad, I'm going to a friends house to work on a group project." I announced from my room as I got dressed.
"On a Monday night?" He questioned, sounding a little confused.
Thinking fast, I came up with a hopefully believable reason.
"I offered to do all the work like usual but they were insistent on meeting up." I continued.
"At 9:30?" He asked uncertainly.
"Yeah, they had a sports practice till 9." I added, trying to be convincing.
"Oh," he said in a confused tone, "ok, be home by 10:30 if you can."
"Ok." I agreed, pulling on my heeled black leather and lace sneakers.
I examined my appearance in the mirror, I'd put on Galaxy shorts, a black long sleeve crop top and black stud earrings.
Nodding, I grabbed a backpack, just for effect, and headed out.
Luckily my dad was in his room and wasn't able to question my choice in clothes.
"Bye dad!" I yelled over my shoulder as the door shut behind me.
Taking a deep breath of cool night air, I felt free. Street lights glowed, the sidewalk and roads were empty. I could do anything. My tormentors weren't around to stop me.
Where to go though?
I didn't have any real plans, just not being bored. Shrugging, I jogged down the street looking for something of interest.
Hearing a crashing noise, I froze, spinning around and realizing I was on the sidewalk outside Cole's house.
I heard muffled swearing, which I assumed was Cole, from the backyard. God knows what he was up to.....
I was about to go check but rethought it when I realized how creepy that would be. Instead I kept going, all the way out of my neighborhood.
The road forked just outside our neighborhood entrance, I could head right toward school and the grocery store, or left toward the mall and night life.
Left, I decided as I turned the corner, still hoping to find something fun to do.
Night life drifted about, going in and out of various stores, chatting lively with the people around them. A few cars would swish past occasionally, probably headed to a late night movie, or maybe a bar.
I crossed the street and sat down on a bench on the sidewalk, just observing people. It was kinda fun to just be alone and watch how people acted and interacted.
Everyone was so different, some people would talk loudly with their group not caring if anyone over heard. Others talked in hushed tones just loud enough for their computer parts to hear. The people in larger groups would interrupt and talk over each-other, laughing and shoving one another. The ones who laughed uncontrollably I assumed were a little drunk, and the quieter ones I assumed were more conservative or just shy.
I tried to imagine people's stories, everyone had one, I'd guess at their backgrounds and lives, making up stories in my mind.
It was entertaining, sure it wasn't dangerous, but it still held interest and the thrill of just being out on my own. But it wasn't quite the same as sneaking out to talk to Cole...
