I knew the saying, curiosity killed the cat, but my curiosity had killed a lot more then a figurative cat.
After reading the court papers, and learning a lot more of the real story of my parents, I'd lost a lot of respect that I held for my dad. I also felt betrayed by the person I was closest to.
It felt like my whole life had been a lie. I'd always strived to make him proud and be perfect cause I felt he'd been through enough when my mom left. I'd tried to be perfect so that I wouldn't end up screwing his life up more.
I'd had so much respect for my dad and his strength after she'd left. But now I saw that he'd pushed her away, no second chances, then lied to me my whole life.
I couldn't help wondering what my life would've been like if I'd known the truth from the start... maybe I wouldn't have been such a good girl and wouldn't have had to deal with the endless teasing and torment.
Now I felt like I didn't owe him anything. No more needing to be perfect. I was done with that. He wanted to lie to me, fine, but fair is fair. He's a liar, now I'd be a liar. Like father like daughter.
It was time to change things up. I had a feeling I'd have a much easier time lying and doing what I wanted now that I'd didn't feel an obligation to please my dad, make him proud and not complicate his life. Cause apparently his life wasn't complex at all aside from the web of lies he'd been telling me.
"Hey molly!" I heard my dad call out from the kitchen.
I glared, jogging out to the kitchen to meet my lying father.
"Hey." I said coldly. He gave me an odd look, slowly setting down the groceries.
"You ok?" He asked tentatively.
My jaw tightened as I decided to be passive aggressive instead of telling him about the file, "yeah. I'm fine."
He nodded slowly, looking slightly concerned that I might be secretly insane.
Shrugging, I pulled out plates like I always did.
Dinner was quieter then usual, as I resorted to one word answers since I was pretty pissed at him.
Immediately after dinner I went back to my room, keeping on my ripped black jeans but switching to a fringy red tank top instead of my sweatshirt. Putting on a black jeweled necklace, and my black high tops, I strutted out to the kitchen.
"I'll be back later." I informed my dad as I shoved my wallet and phone into the back pocket of my jeans.
He was about to say something, but I slammed the door behind me before he could. I was done with my good girl image, time to go shopping.
An idea popped into my head, I veered off the sidewalk, jogging up to Cole's front porch an knocking on the door. I thought bringing him along would be fun.
Luckily, Cole answered the door, looking me up and down with a raised eyebrow.
"Feeling dangerous are we?" Cole asked with a smirk.
I gave him a quick glare, "I just found out my whole life has been a lie so I'm gonna try out a new style."
He raised an eyebrow, probably wondering why I felt the need to come all the way over here just to say that.
As I was about to ask if he'd drive me to the mall, I reconsidered and went with something less submissive.
"Your driving me to the mall." I stated, placing my hands on my hips.
Cole smirked, his eyebrows rising higher, "am I?"
"Yup," I nodded, "grab your shoes and I'll meet you at your motorcycle."
He scoffed, shaking his head, "alright drama queen."
I smiled as he grabbed his shoes and keys from near the door and followed me out to the motorcycle.
I hopped onto the back, waiting as he balanced on one foot and put his shoes on.
Cole swung onto the front of the motorcycle, making one last comment before revving the engine, "if you want to be edgy, you've definitely got the right outfit on."
Smiling, I wrapped my arms around him as he sped out of the driveway and toward the mall.
As we drove, I looked around and realized my whole perspective was changing. Everything appeared to have so many opportunities I'd never noticed till now.
I spotted the hair stylist place, thinking of all the fun things I could do with my long hair. Also, I saw the tattoo/piercing place, maybe I'd get a second and/ or third ear piercing....
So many opportunities that I hadn't even considered, this was gonna be a whole new adventure.
We reached the mall, there weren't many people since it was nearly ten o'clock.
"What store?" Cole asked, leaning on his motorcycle.
"I don't know, where do they sell stuff like this?" I asked, pointing toward my outfit.
He smirked, "I know a couple of places."
Nodding, I followed him inside as he led me to wherever they sold clothes like the ones I was wearing, badass clothes.
