Amandas pov
Once outside in the courtyard, I scanned the area frantically. "Mailin! Where are you?" I called out, my heart pounding with worry.
Then, amidst the chaos, I spotted her lying on the ground. "Mailin!" Fear surged through me as I rushed to her side, kneeling down beside her. "Mailin! Are you okay?"
There was no response.
I frantically shook her, but she remained unresponsive. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I pleaded, "Mailin! Mailin, wake up!" Yet, she wouldn't stir. Checking her pulse, I felt a glimmer of hope—she was still alive, but barely. She was unconscious.
"Help! HELP! Somebody, please!" I cried out, my voice cracking with desperation. Akko and the others rushed over, accompanied by Professor Ursula. Their gasps mirrored my own when they saw Mailin lying there.
Professor Ursula swiftly levitated Mailin, transporting her inside to a hospital-like room where they could provide her with care. Days turned into weeks, yet Mailin showed no signs of waking. I remained steadfast by her side, day and night, while the professors ensured her well-being with protective spells.
As exhaustion weighed heavily upon me, I succumbed to sleep beside her, unwilling to leave the love of my life's side even in slumber.
Akko's pov
Two weeks had passed since we found Mailin in that state. Amanda's condition was deteriorating; she neglected food and sleep, consumed by worry and despair.
After classes, I made my routine visit to Mailin, sharing the day's events with her in the hopes that somehow, she could hear me and would awaken soon.
Entering the room, I found Amanda slumped in a chair, her head resting on Mailin's bedside. She stirred as I gently woke her.
"Hey, Akko," Amanda greeted me, her voice strained and weary, evidence of countless tears shed.
"Amanda, you really need to eat something and get some rest. I know you're worried about her, but Mailin would want you to take care of yourself," I urged, concern etched on my face.
Amanda sighed, acknowledging my words. With a heavy glance at Mailin, she reluctantly left the room.
Taking her place by Mailin's side, I began to speak softly to her. "Hey, Mailin, it's me again. I convinced Amanda to eat and rest. She's really worried about you, as we all are. The tension here is palpable, especially with the festival just two days away. Nike and Naile have taken over your responsibilities with the fireworks, of course."
After a while of me conversing with Mailin, the door swung open, and Professor Ursula stepped in. "Oh, hey, Akko," she greeted me with a warm smile.
"Hey, Professor, anything new?" I inquired eagerly.
"Oh, yes! I found a spell that might help!" The Professor's excitement was palpable.
"Really?!" I leaped to my feet so quickly that I accidentally knocked over the chair. "Oops, sorry." Hastily, I righted the chair and turned back to the Professor. "What spell?"
"We've tried every spell imaginable, but nothing has worked. It dawned on me that the magic affecting Mailin might be unfamiliar to us," the Professor explained.
"Magic that we're unfamiliar with?" I echoed, puzzled.
"Yes, but I've discovered a potent spell that could potentially undo this unfamiliar magic!" The Professor's grin was infectious.
"That's fantastic! What spell?" I pressed eagerly
"True love's kiss."
I gasped, realizing the gravity of her words. "That's the most powerful magic of all!"
The Professor nodded in agreement. "Where's Amanda?"
"I'll go get her!" Without hesitation, I dashed out of the room. A few minutes later, I returned with not only Amanda but also Lotte, Sucy, Constanze, and Jasminka in tow.
"Didn't you just need Amanda?" Professor Ursula arched an eyebrow at me.
"They insisted on coming too," I replied hastily.
Turning to the Professor, Amanda inquired, "What do you need me for?"
"We've discovered a spell that might awaken Mailin—a true love's kiss," the Professor explained.
Lotte gasped, recognizing the significance. "Love is the most powerful magic of all."
With determination, Amanda approached Mailin. Time seemed to slow as we collectively held our breath. Amanda leaned in, her lips meeting Mailin's, and a brilliant golden light erupted, forcing us to shield our eyes. As the radiance subsided, we cautiously opened our eyes to find Mailin stirring awake, gasping for breath. Amanda deftly moved out of the way just in time.
"Mailin!" We all exclaimed joyfully as she blinked and took in her surroundings.
