Today is the day, the Flaming Six vs the London Lynx, who our rivals basically. This is the clubs first final since the early 2000s, weather it was in for the men or women, therefore every hit counts. As I eventually get out of bed, I hear my roommate and best friend, Chloe Harrison, groaning next to me.
"Morning." She says while yawning. She rolls over to her side and continues to sleep. So she says good morning and then goes back to bed? Wow.
"Chloe, we don't have that much time man, get up." I tell her, making my way to the wardrobe, putting on my training kit and then putting my hair up into a high pony tail.
"Oh my god, fine. I am coming" She says while grunting. "Oh yeah, and just to let you know, my mate from Arsenal is coming to our final today. She is also bringing someone with her, and I want you to meet them both." She tells. She has told me numerous times to be honest. I have never heard her be so excited about her friend coming to one of our games. Maybe its because of the final, but I am not quite sure.
"Yeah, I know, you told me. What was her name again? Catlin or something? That Australian person?" I ask, and she lets out a slight giggle.
"Yeah, that Australian person." She lets out laughing, as I finish tying my hair up.
"Who is that other person then?" I ask, and she gives me a cheeky smile.
"I dunno to be honest, she hasn't told me." She simply says, but I know she is lying, I know just my looking at her face. She breaks a slight giggle at the end, and I instantly get confused. I don't think much of it to be honest.
We make our way to the training ground, and I see all my mates waiting for me. After breakfast, we all make our way to the bus. Me and Chloe sit next to each other, obviously, and begin to listen to our music. Luckily, during this tournament, Chloe has had a time to upgrade her playlist and get rid of her old one. I personally hated that one to be honest. Then, around 40 mins later, we arrive at the arena. Its a pretty cool one as well, I am not gonna lie. Our home ground has a capacity of around 20,000, but this one has a capacity of around 45,000, which insane. I also heard that we are the first 2 teams to be running the first volleyball tournament in the new arena, which just makes it even better. Once we arrive at our destination, we walked through the back door to get to our changing rooms. Just by walking through, I instantly notice how loud and noisy the fans were. To loud music from speakers, to loud drums and trumpets, to loud singing and chanting. That's when it made me realise. We had spent so much time stressing about how well we are gonna do, how bad we want to win, but the truth is, weather we win or loose, the fans will always be there for us, no matter what. Today is such a big day, but regardless of what everyone thought, I wanted to do everything in my power to make sure we were capable of winning. And as a captain, I know we are capable. We just have to prove it, and today is a day to do that.
As we all get changed, our manager, Lilly, started to explain to us why it was important for us to win today.
"Okay girls, there is no secret that today is the biggest day of your life. The one thing I will say, is that please do not stress. I know it is nerve wracking, but the more we stress, the harder it will be. All I ask is to say positive, stay focused, and lets do everything in our power to win, okay? Today is a big day. I know that, and you know that. But, look around, the fans, the music, the chanting, the crowd. We are here to play the sport that we love, we are here to change the life of Volleyball forever, to inspire young boys and girls. Everyone understand?" We all shouted in agreement.
"YEAH!"
"Altogether, 1, 2, 3.." Team!" We all clap out hands, making our way out for warmups. There weren't a lot of people her to be honest, but as the time went on, we started to notice more and more people coming to fill in the seats. I was warming up with Chloe, her setting the ball for me as I spike it as hard as I could with my left hand. Everyone started to notice me, how high I was jumping and how hard I was hitting the ball.
