The violent ordeal with the Head Cook drained Natalie of what little energy she possessed, but the blue water Yona gave her refueled Natalie long enough to survive the rough escort with Quartermaster Que. He dragged her above decks, where multitudes of pirates were hard at work tying knots, throwing ropes about, and drawing the Yellow Jack's lines taut.
To Natalie's surprise, the pirates sang a star shanty to suffer through their work:
"We toil and trouble, boil and bubble,
Drinking the blue, through and through!
We work and we wait, mate to mate,
While Jack searches for a treasure or two!
"Tundra was a start, Hoshech was dark,
Chama was bloody, and Shacker was fiery!
Systems we fought, and planets we bought,
Riches galore as fellow Jack grew mighty!
"From the swamps of Ido to the mines of Nico,
And the rains of Shogak to the winds of Ro-Tak,
In Avast we mellowed, now hearty we bellow,
Glory and fame to the Yellow Jack!"
Que brought Natalie to the tallest of the five masts, from which massive, black sails waved ever so slightly in the cosmic breeze. A set of rungs led up the side of the endless log and disappeared into the stars.
"Climb up to the nest, Hot Hands," Que instructed her. "There, you'll meet our senior lookout, Ogles."
He handed Natalie a piece of paper. "This guarantees you six hours of sleep."
