OCTOBER 24TH

It's early in the morning. We had been following the train tracks, which were a lot different than the ones I was used to. They were pretty much all metal, not metal and wood. I balanced on the track behind Four as best as I could with my leg being injured. My sides still were uncomfortable, and I was finding it harder to breathe, worse than it had been. Every so often, we'd see signs or something along the lines, which would make people ask what that was. I frowned, stopping in front of a box. It had pictures of bottles with different color liquids inside. It read cola on it. What is this? I asked Cara, who walked up, and she shook her head. I don't know. She said, taking my hand and spinning me to face the other's as we started walking. Are you doing ok? I looked at Cara and nodded. Yeah, why wouldn't I be? She raised an eyebrow at me when I noticed it. Four and Tris had stopped moving. EVERYONE STOP! Tris yelled. I stopped so abruptly that I almost fell backward. Had Cara not caught me, I would have. That wasn't protocol for when one of us had to go to the bathroom. I frowned some at them but heard the low rumble. An engine. I muttered as we ran to the center of the tracks. I raised my rifle as I stopped next to Four. The others raised their gun as well. The truck that rounds the corner is huge and black. The number of people it could fit in the back was probably an insane amount. The truck bumps over the tracks and when the truck stops I see the driver. He has dark skin with longish hair which is up in a bun towards the back of his head. He almost looked like- God. Four muttered as a woman got out of the the truck and puts both hands up. I train my gun on her. Hello. She says a little nervous. My name is Zoe, this is Amar.

My stomach drops everything goes numb as I move my gun to the guy in the truck. My breathing is catching. Amar is dead. Four snapped and I see a small smile appear on the apparent Amar's face. No I'm not. Come on Four. I stood there zoning out. I couldn't think, couldn't hear. All my memories of Amar flooding back. He was dead. No! IS! He IS dead. He died when I was twelve. He fell off a building and died. Erudite killed him. Kace. I heard Uriah snap from somewhere. I glance over everyone has lowered their guns, all but me. I couldn't move. They were lying. Kacie? He looked over at me and smirked some. No. I muttered shaking my head. Lower your gun, Kace. He said and I shook my head. Kacie- I looked at Four. But he- I know- but- just lower it. But- Kacie. Amar said in a sing-song voice. He's dead. He's supposed to be dead. I know. Four said putting his hand on my gun. I took some deep breaths in and lowered it, Four got me into a hug. Ok, it's ok, just breathe, its ok.

Four

I made eye contact with Tris who frowned I shook my head before looking at Uriah. He walked over getting ahold of her, and headed to be loaded into the truck. What happened? Tris muttered to me. Amar was like Kacie's brother. I said glancing at him. He was the one who found when they took her to Dauntless. She was the last person he interacted with before he died. I said as we loaded in. She laid there in Uriah's lap her earbuds in. She took his death pretty hard. She never really bounced back. Is she going to be ok? I don't know.

At some point Uriah passed me off to Cara. I had fallen asleep next to her but when I woke up my head was in her lap, and she was stroking my hair. She was talking I could feel the vibrations. I look up across from me and see Four. He smiled sadly at me. I felt Cara say something, and Four nodded. Nothing changed though, and she just kept on stroking my hair. I kept getting flashbacks from the morning before he was found dead. How he came down and was telling me how much he loved me no matter what. He was saying goodbye. I turned my head burying  part of my face in Cara's leg. Her hand stroked a little faster. It feels like forever before the truck stops moving. Cara rubs my shoulder, and I sit up. I was the last to get out of the truck. I look around at the area. Two fences are guarding us. We just left one fence only to be put behind two more. The building itself is short but still large. Cara smacks my arm slightly and I take my earbuds out as Zoe and Amar were walking towards us. I look straight down so I don't have to look at Amar. Welcome to the compound. Zoe said coming up to us. This building used to be O'Hare Airport, one of the busiest airports in the country. Now it's the headquarters of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare—or just the Bureau, as we call it around here. It's an agency of the United States government.
