Chapter Fourteen

Haven looks at the shopping bags she currently have that's sprawled all over her room as she squints her eyes, Themarie had been always encouraging her to go out and buy some stuff that she wanted. It was basically just a bare minimum for her that she never got ever since. Themarie has spoiling for sure but not this kind of spoiling. It was the first for Haven to experience such a change from the woman and she couldn't help but overthink this.
Themarie was now spoiling her, but for what reason?
"Is she dying?" Haven looks at the old maid that's just silently cleaning their bedroom. It was an innocent question but also a concerning one to even construct.
"I'm pretty sure she'll be living longer than you, Miss." The old woman says before she dusts off the drawers and tables around the whole room and Haven doesn't take any offense hearing the proud response.
"That's true." Haven frowned and she nodded her head agreeing to that little fact. Haven knew she'd die first because she's the stressed out one and the one who mentally exhausts herself. Meanwhile Themarie was all for using people for her pleasure and the sake of being saved.
"She just never spoils me like this." Haven sits down on the edge of the bed and she crosses her arms before giving out a deep sigh.
The old woman stops dusting before she turns to look at Haven who is in a very deep notion of thoughts. "Shouldn't you be happy, Milady?" The woman gives a plain response before tilting her head.
"I am but..." Haven mumbled as she didn't know what to fully say about that statement. She should be happy she's getting all of this but Haven couldn't wrap it up in her head that Themarie is in the stage of spoiling her, letting her buy such things and use her card for expenses. It leaves her thinking of what's currently up on Themarie's head.
"But you have never experienced it before?" The woman responded to Haven's hesitated answer.
Haven laughs slightly before she nodded her head when the old woman got her point right. "Yes, she's never like this to me, that's why it leaves me thinking. Why is she doing this to me?" She mumbled a question. She was treated like trash and some side piece even with the legalization of marriage, she was treated so poorly and now, Themarie was doing all of this things Haven hoped and asked for in their first month of marriage. Themarie was doing this and it felt like some bad omen for Haven.
"People being good doesn't mean they have done something bad or they will do something bad." The old woman speaks to her and she bitterly laughed at the wise quotation.
"This is Themarie we're talking about." Haven said and looked at the old woman.
"She may not be the same little girl I guided growing up, I'm sure she has her reasons." Haven just gives a plain smile at the woman. She knows that the old maid would forever be by Themarie's side. She perfectly knows that in this mansion, no one will be taking her side at all because they each and only know Themarie.
"She's not the little girl that giggles and runs around the big hallway anymore that you all knew. She's a woman, with a cold heart. If anyone would have the reason to be cold why would they inflict that on someone who only just wants to be loved? Why choose to hurt them if they only wish to love you?" She says as her heart aches at her own question. It felt so difficult to be asked to be loved. To ask for an assurance and for a commitment that doesn't break like a thin thread.
"You think she has her reasons to be hurting me?" Haven questions.
"That is not up to me to answer, Miss. I am so sorry if that's what you feel." The old woman mumbled an apology and she bows her head. She felt apologetic and Haven just sighed before she lays down on the bed before closing her eyes.
