An ominous mist weaved through the dense Mount Natagumo as Ayuna and Shirayuki faced Shun. The forest seemed to hold its breath as the only sounds were the rustling of leaves and the steady breathing of the demon slayers.
"Is this all you've got?" taunted Shun, his voice echoing eerily from multiple directions. His body blurred into a series of ghostly afterimages that danced around the slayers with mocking agility. Ayuna narrowed her eyes as she attempted to track the demon's erratic movements, her swords poised for a swift counter.
However, Shun's speed was overwhelming, his form flickering like a flame in a storm. His laughter and taunting were a dissonant chorus that grated on their nerves. His form materialised momentarily before vanishing. Like a mocking spectre, he seemed to revel in the slayers' growing frustration.
'Even if it feels like he is everywhere...' lingered Shirayuki, tilting her head. She tuned her senses to feel and hear every subtle shift in the air to find Shun's proper position.
Then, with a fluid motion, she pivoted. Her blade sliced through the mist in a graceful arc, aimed at where she deduced Shun would next appear. 'I feel like we can reach him,' the white-haired girl concluded.
However, Shirayuki's blade met only air, yet her attack was a declaration. It was a refusal to be cowed by Shun's intimidating speed. For a fleeting moment, it became silence as Shirayuki's wordless challenge resonated. "Good. You are not done yet, aren't you?" asked Shun mockingly.
Inspired by Shirayuki's spirit, Ayuna smirked and took a deep breath. "Blood Breathing Two Sword Style Second Form:..." she lingered, grabbing the handle of her two sheathed swords. "Crimson Scale!" she shouted when she suddenly dashed at Shun and swung wildly, dissipating the steam cloud.
Unfortunately, she didn't land a hit and only heard a laugh from above, making her look up. "That was pretty fast. But let me show you what speed is," taunted the demon as more steam left his body. "Blood Demon Art: Sizzling Tempest," mused Shun before he became a blur.
Trying to keep up with his movements, Ayuna furrowed her brows. "Stay focused, Shirayuki," she called out as she heard movement on her left. She barely had time to defend herself before Shun kicked her swords, pushing Ayuna back.
Thankfully, Shirayuki's sword managed to graze his face before he could follow up, causing Shun to cackle. "So, you can follow my movements, huh?" he asked mockingly. "Should I go faster?" asked Shun to no one in particular before laughing. "Maybe I should!" he said before dashing around as the two slayers tried to fend off his assault.
However, their situation grew increasingly dire as Shun's attacks began to land. A cut here, a scrape there or a light burn. Each was a stark reminder of the demon's dominance in this fight. 'This is bad,' realised Ayuna before glancing at Shirayuki. She saw the girl panting heavily, and a tired expression laced her face.
Ayuna gritted her teeth, her determination flaring against Shun's assault. She leapt forward, attempting to catch Shun off guard with a vertical assault. "Not yet!" she yelled before taking a small breath. "Blood Breathing Two Sword Style Third Form: X-ray Shredder!" she shouted, slashing in a cross pattern through the steam.
