Izzy stood nervously on the doorstep of the Walker family's home, the dog Pickles held securely in her arms. She took a deep breath as she rang the doorbell. She hoped CC wouldn't be the one to open the door.
The door swung open to reveal CC's mother, Jess, a warm smile lighting up her face as she recognized Izzy. "Oh, Izzy dear, what a pleasant surprise!" she exclaimed, her eyes falling on Pickles. Though Izzy knew it wasn't much of a surprise considering she had called not too long ago. Jess accepted Pickles with gratitude, showering Izzy with praise for her kindness. Which the younger girl couldn't help but get filled with pride. "Thank you so much, Izzy." Jess said sincerely. "You've saved us quite a bit of worry."
Izzy returned the smile, relieved by the warm welcome. "I found him at the park."
"Yeah, I'll have to call CC to let her know Pickles has been found." Which ultimately the attempt was futile as CC didn't answer the call.
After much convincing, Izzy accepted the invitation inside. She followed Jess into the kitchen, where they chatted for a few minutes, Jess offering brownies to her.
Just as they were discussing a new topic, the sound of footsteps echoed down the stairs, followed by a frantic voice calling out.
"Mom! Mom, Have you seen my 1999 PSA-graded holo charizard card? It's not in its usual spot." By the sound of his voice, he was extremely worried. Jess's expression tightened slightly at the interruption, but she quickly composed herself, shooting a warning glance in her son's direction. "Wyatt," she said gently, nodding towards Izzy. "Don't be rude to guests."
Wyatt blinked, finally registered Izzy's presence. "Oh, hi." He waved awkwardly, his gaze narrowing as he recognized her. "You're Isabel, right?" Wyatt continued when he saw Izzy nod. "CC talks a lot about you."
"Good things I hope." Izzy chuckled awkwardly, confused as to why CC would be talking about her so much. Knowing how much CC dislikes her, she had to assume they were not nice things. The thought left her feeling slightly uneasy, unsure of how she was perceived by CC's family.
Wyatt and his mother talked back and forth but after a few minutes of discussion, Jess gently shooed Wyatt away to bother his dad about his missing card.
It wasn't long before Jess left for a few minutes to check on her laundry, leaving Izzy alone with Pickles. But the peacefulness was short lived as the front door swung open, revealing CC's distressed voice calling out for her mother. her stomach knotted with apprehension. "Mom! I can't find Pickles." Izzy's heart skipped a beat as she heard CC's footsteps drawing closer. "Mom?" CC's concern quickly turned to surprise as her eyes fell upon Izzy standing by Pickles. "Who invited you here?" CC's voice turned sour.
Izzy scoffed at CC's tone. "Your mom invited me." She replied, her voice tinged with irritation. "And just so you know, I actually found Pickles at the park and brought him home."
CC's eyes narrowed with suspicion as she approached Pickles, her accusatory tone cutting through the air "You stole him, didn't you?" She reached down to pick up her dog. "I swear you can never leave me be."
Izzy couldn't help but laugh incredulously at CC's accusation, her frustration giving way to amusement. "And why would I ever do that?" She replied, her tone laced with sarcasm. "I'm not in the habit of stealing other people's pets, Walker."
CC's expression hardened, her distrust evident as she glared at Izzy. "I don't know what games you're playing, Bronson." She retorted sharply, clutching Pickles protectively to her chest. "First you spilled my drink, now this."
Izzy's frustration flared at CC's refusal to believe her, her patience wearing thin. "Fine," She replied in exasperation. "Believe whatever you want."
As she made her way towards the door, Izzy couldn't resist one final remark. "For the record. For someone who supposedly hates me, you sure do talk about me a lot, apparently." CC's brows furrowed with confusion, until they flashed with realization. "Wyatt!" Her voice muffled as Izzy closed the door behind her.

"So, get this," Izzy began, sitting next to Maya after their soccer practice. "I was at the Walker's house last weekend, and-"
"You were with CC??" Maya's eyes widened in interest.
Izzy playfully punched her on the shoulder. "No you idiot, let me finish." she chuckled. "Anyway... I had returned their dog, because he was lost in the park. And Walker came in, accusing me of stealing him." She laughed. Maya's eyes widened with surprise as she listened intently to Izzy's story. "No way," she exclaimed, shaking her head in disbelief. "That's crazy. Why would she think you'd steal her dog?"
Izzy shrugged, a bemused expression crossing her features. "Beats me." She replied with a sigh. "Walker thinks I'm "out to get her" or something." She raised her hands up in quotations. "She thinks me spilling her drink was on purpose, too."
Maya's eyebrows shot up in disbelief. "Seriously? She's still hung up on that drink incident?" She shook her head, incredulous. "Talk about holding a grudge."
Izzy chuckled, nodding in agreement. "It's like she's looking for reasons to be mad at me." her eyebrows shot up. "Oh, that reminds me. Her brother said that apparently she talks about me a lot."
"If I didn't know any better, I would say she has a crush on you." Maya snickered.
Izzy couldn't help but burst into laughter at Maya's suggestion, her eyes widening in amusement. "Oh, please." She exclaimed, shaking her head in disbelief. "Walker having a crush on me? That's ridiculous."
Maya grinned mischievously, clearly enjoying teasing her friend. "Hey, you never know." She replied playfully. "Sometimes people act mean towards someone they secretly like."
Izzy rolled her eyes, but a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "Well if that's the case, then she's got a funny way of showing it." she remarked dryly. "But honestly, I think she might be jealous."
Maya nodded in understanding. "Yeah, that makes sense. But just remember, if she ever does start acting nice to you, I told you so." She remarked with a wink.
