As the morning light filtered through the curtains, Izzy stirred awake, her mind still heavy with the events of the previous night. Rubbing her eyes, she sat up slowly, taking in her surroundings as she tried to shake off the remnants of sleep.Emilia entered the room with a gentle knock. "Hey, how are you feeling?" she asked softly, approaching Izzy's bedside.
Izzy managed a weak smile. "I'm okay," she replied, though there was uncertainty in her voice.
Emilia sat down beside her, her gaze filled with remorse. "You don't have to go to school today," she informed, her voice tinged with guilt. "I just thought you could use a day to... process everything."
Izzy nodded, grateful for her sister's understanding. "Thanks, Em," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
They sat in silence for a moment, the weight of their shared history hanging heavy in the air. Finally, Emilia spoke up, her voice soft yet tinged with regret. "Izzy, I'm sorry for pushing you away when we were younger," she said, her words laced with emotion. "I know things haven't been easy for us, especially with Mom and Dad being the way they are."
Izzy's heart ached at her sister's words, the wounds of their childhood resurfacing with painful clarity. "It's okay, Em," she replied, reaching out to squeeze her sister's hand. "I get it."
Emilia managed a small smile, a hint of sadness lingering in her eyes. Sensing the heaviness of the moment, she cleared her throat, her expression brightening slightly. "Hey, why don't we go out somewhere today?" she suggested, her voice infused with warmth. "Just the two of us."
Izzy's spirits lifted at the idea, the prospect of spending time with her sister offering a glimmer of hope. "That sounds nice," she replied, a genuine smile spreading across her face. "Where do you want to go?"
Emilia shrugged. "How about we just drive and see where the road takes us?" she proposed.
Izzy grinned, the weight of the world momentarily lifted from her shoulders. "I'm in," she declared, her heart filled with gratitude for her sister.
"And maybe we can buy you a new leather jacket. Can't believe you still wear the same one I gave you years ago." Emilia chuckled, recalling the oversized jacket she had given her sister, which Izzy had eventually grown into.
Izzy chuckled at the mention of her old leather jacket, a nostalgic twinge tugging at her heartstrings. "Yeah, I guess it's time for an upgrade," she agreed, a fond smile tugging at the corners of her lips. The jacket held sentimental value for her, a tangible reminder of Emilia.
With a sense of excitement bubbling within her, Izzy got ready and climbed into the car beside Emilia.
With Emilia by her side, she felt like she could forget about the events of the previous night, if only for a little while.
Their first stop was a cozy café for breakfast, the same one CC introduced her to, where they indulged in fluffy pancakes and cups of coffee. They talked about everything they had missed in the last couple of years.
Next, they made their way to the park, where they strolled along winding paths, the vibrant colors of autumn painting the landscape in hues of gold and amber. Izzy laughed as Emilia recounted funny childhood memories.
Throughout the day, Emilia's presence provided Izzy with a sense of comfort, a happy reminder that she finally had her sister back.
As Emilia and Izzy approached their house, they noticed CC standing by the front door, a puzzled expression on her face. CC waved as they got closer, her expression quickly morphing into one of concern.
