"I can't believe her," CC grumbled, getting out cotton balls and the alcohol from Izzy's cabinet. "Seriously, she needed that red card."

Izzy winced slightly as she adjusted her position on the bathroom counter, the nasty scratch on her thigh stinging. "Yeah, ever since I made the second goal she was already bumping into me," Izzy agreed, watching CC with a mixture of appreciation and amusement.

CC settled herself in between Izzy's legs, carefully dabbing the scratch with the alcohol-soaked cotton ball. "This might sting a bit," she warned, her touch gentle despite her frustration.

Izzy sucked in a breath as the alcohol made contact with her skin. "Ouch! Okay, that definitely stings," she said, trying to keep her tone light. She looked as CC worked on her scratch, trying to distract herself from the pain and the fact that CC was literally standing in between her thighs, so close to her.

CC glanced up, her expression softening. "Sorry, I'll try to be quick," she said, her fingers deftly working to clean the wound. Though Izzy didn't mind if she took her time despite the pain. She wanted her closer.

Izzy couldn't calm down her beating heart, the way CC's unoccupied hand was resting warmly on her other thigh, her thumb rubbing circles as if it was going to calm her down. Does she not realize the effect she has on me?

It seemed her wound had gotten used to the alcohol for now, as all Izzy could focus on was CC's features—the concentrated, almost angry look she had since the girl had pushed Izzy to the ground.

Izzy didn't realize when CC set the cotton ball down, grabbing a new one and drenching it in alcohol, until it stung her thigh. She hissed, snapping back to reality as her knuckle turned white with how she was gripping the side of the counter. "You really know how to keep a girl on her toes," she joked weakly, trying to lighten the mood.

CC smiled apologetically. "Sorry," she said, her touch gentle as she continued to clean the wound. "I just can't stand seeing you hurt." She paused, meeting Izzy's gaze. "Especially not like this."

Izzy felt a warm rush of affection, her heart swelling at CC's words. "I'll be okay," she whispered, reaching up to brush a strand of hair behind CC's ear. "Especially with you here."

CC's eyes softened, and she leaned into Izzy's touch. "I'm always here for you," she murmured, her fingers lingering on Izzy's thigh, the tenderness in her touch making Izzy's heart race.

"You're driving me crazy," Izzy whispered, her face flushed, feeling CC's thumb still rubbing soothing circles on her thigh.

CC's smile widened, her eyes sparkling with affection. "Good," she said softly, leaning in closer. "Because you drive me crazy too," she said, her hand lightly squeezing Izzy's uninjured thigh.

Izzy's breath hitched at the squeeze, her heart pounding. "You're not helping," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

CC chuckled softly, her breath warm against Izzy's lips. "Maybe I don't want to help," she teased, her eyes never leaving Izzy's as she leaned in to close the distance between them.

Their lips met in a slow, lingering kiss, all the emotions of the day melting away in that moment. Izzy's fingers tangled in CC's hair, pulling her closer, deepening the kiss. CC's hands roamed gently, careful to avoid the injury but unable to resist the urge to touch the rest of her.

With a soft sigh, CC pulled Izzy closer, her fingers gripping the fabric of Izzy's jersey just below the small of her back. The closeness of their bodies, coupled with the gentle pressure of their embrace, made them both forget the world outside.

When they finally pulled away, both were breathless, their foreheads resting against each other. CC chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair from Izzy's face. "We should probably get back to your injury," she said. "You'll have to wear a bandage around your thigh until it gets better."

Izzy wanted to protest, to continue kissing her, but instead she nodded and smiled. "Yeah, I guess you're right," she kissed her again, a quick, affectionate peck on the lips. "Thanks for taking care of me."

CC grinned, her fingers gently tracing the edges of the scratch. "Always."

The weekend passed in a blur of rest and moments with CC, and now Izzy found herself back in the bustling hallways of school. She closed her locker, adjusting her bag on her shoulder, when Maya appeared at her side.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Maya asked, her eyes glancing to Izzy's bandaged thigh, hiding behind her jeans.

Izzy smiled, shrugging slightly. "Better, thanks. It wasn't actually that deep, It's healing up nicely."

Maya nodded, a hint of relief in her expression. "Good to hear. Can't believe the first game you're already hurt."

Izzy chuckled, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, I guess it's just part of the game. But it's not an injury where it stops me from playing."

Maya grinned. "Glad to hear it." They began walking to their next class.

"No kidding," Maya laughed. "You should have seen CC's face before she came over to you. She looked absolutely furious. Staring daggers at whoever pushed you."

Izzy laughed, shaking her head.

Maya continued, chuckling. "She was more upset than you were. I swear she was ready to jump into the game herself."

Izzy smiled. "Yeah, she definitely has a protective streak. She was definitely more concerned about me than I was about myself."

Maya grinned. "It's great to have someone who cares that much. You two seem like you're doing great."

Izzy's smile softened, her cheeks turning a hint of pink. "Yeah, we are." She glanced down, feeling a warmth at the thought of CC. They had been dating for a month now, but Izzy had felt like they've made many memories already.

Maya smiled warmly. "It's nice to see you so happy." She looked over at her friend, wondering if she should ask her next question. In the end she knew her and Izzy were great friends, and Izzy wouldn't get upset with her. "Are you still getting nightmares?" Maya said in a softer tone, knowing Izzy was dealing with frequent nightmares of that night.

Izzy's expression shifted slightly, her smile fading as she looked down. "Um, not as much as before actually," she adjusted her bag. "I've only had one once this last month, so that's an improvement."

Maya's expression softened with relief. "That's good to hear, at least. I'm glad it's getting better."

Izzy nodded, a small smile returning. "Yeah, CC definitely helped with that."

"I can imagine. It's nice how one person can make a difference."

Izzy smiled, her thoughts drifting to the comfort CC had provided. "Definitely. I don't think I'd be doing as well without her."
