A few days had passed since CC and Ava's study session. As Friday rolled around, CC couldn't contain her excitement any longer. With a sense of nervous anticipation fluttering in her chest, she pulled out her phone and composed a text to Izzy.

'hey Izzy, I was wondering if you'd be up for helping me study for my upcoming exam? :) could really use your help.'

She hadn't felt this excited about hanging out with someone in a long time.

Now all she could do was wait for Izzy's response, hoping for the chance to see her again soon.

As she waited for Izzy's reply, CC found herself unable to focus on anything else. The minutes stretched into what felt like hours (which only happened to be five minutes), each passing second only serving to heighten her anticipation.

Finally, just as CC was about to set her phone down, her phone chimed with a new message.

'you're not gonna be falling asleep on me are you?'

CC's heart skipped a beat as she read Izzy's teasing response. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she typed out her reply.

'as long as you're not as boring as my teachers ;)'

Sending the message, CC couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. It seemed Izzy was willing to help her study, and the thought of spending time with her again filled CC with a sense of warmth. Seriously, how long had they been friends now? and CC was still acting like a high school girl.

Which, to be fair, she is one.

The day couldn't pass quickly enough as CC counted down the hours until she could see Izzy. But once Izzy arrived, the minutes seemed to pass by quicker now, up until they started studying. Flash card after flash card, CC was slowly starting to memorize some of the material for the exam.

"Can we take a break?" CC groaned, messaging her temple as she leaned back on her pillows.

"It's only been thirty minutes." Izzy chuckled, setting the flash cards down nonetheless.

"Feels like hours," CC muttered, stretching her arms above her head.

Izzy laughed, a warm sound that filled the room. "Alright, let's take a break then." Her eyes moved on its own accord, down CC's figure as she stretched, her shirt rising slightly. Izzy gulped and averted her eyes, ignoring whatever the hell she was doing. And why had her eyes gone there? She had no idea.

As they took a break, Izzy did not want to let the silence take over. "Our game is next week." She wiggled her eyebrows. "And then you have your last game before Christmas break right? With the Broadwick Daredevils?"

CC grinned, the mention of their upcoming games sparking a sense of excitement within her. She always likes talking about anything soccer. "Yeah, that's right," she replied, nodding eagerly. "I can't wait."

Izzy chuckled, a playful glint in her eyes. "You better bring your A-game, Walker," she teased, nudging CC lightly. "I'm not holding back."

CC's grin widened at Izzy's playful challenge. "Oh, you're on. Just don't cry when my team wipes the floor with yours."

Izzy laughed, shaking her head in amusement. "We'll see about that," she retorted. "But seriously, maybe I can go to your game against Broadwick."

CC's smile faltered slightly at Izzy's suggestion, a hint of pink on her cheeks. "Uh, yeah. That would be nice," she replied, trying to hide her nerves. The thought of Izzy attending her game filled her with a mix of excitement and nervousness. What if she messed up in front of Izzy? What if she didn't live up to Izzy's expectations? They played many games together, but somehow Izzy attending her games was much different.

But despite her doubts, CC couldn't help but feel a flutter in her chest. Maybe having Izzy there would give her the extra motivation she needed to give her best performance yet.

"I'll text you all the details," CC added.

Izzy nodded, her expression filled with genuine enthusiasm. "Awesome, I'll be there," she declared, a smile lighting up her face.

As they resumed their conversation, CC soon suggested getting a drink from the kitchen, and just as they were standing up, CC's soccer ball that was on the ground, made contact with Izzy's foot. CC's eyes widened in alarm as she watched Izzy stumble. Before she could think, she was grabbing Izzy by her arm as a way to keep her upright. Which only caused CC to come falling down with her. With a thud, she landed on top of Izzy, their bodies tangled together.

For a moment, they both lay there in stunned silence, the weight of CC's body pressing against Izzy's. CC could feel her cheeks flush with embarrassment, the proximity between them suddenly feeling much too close for comfort. Her mind raced with a flurry of thoughts, but one sensation stood out above the rest: the sudden warmth that accompanied her lower stomach as their hips were flushed with each other, the warmth that it created. Why is this the only thing I can focus on??

Izzy's laughing broke the silence, her ears growing warm at the sudden contact. "Do you ever put your soccer ball away?"

CC blinked, snapping out of her daze as she realized she was still lying on top of Izzy. With a gasp, she scrambled to push herself off of Izzy, her cheeks burning. "I-I'm so sorry, Izzy," she stammered, her voice shaky. "I didn't mean to... I didn't mean to fall on you like that."

Izzy sat up slowly, rubbing her elbow where it had hit the floor. "It's okay," she replied, offering CC a reassuring smile. "Gave me a sense of deja vu, when you pushed me on the soccer field." she reminisced, recalling their first match of the semester.

But CC couldn't shake the feeling of embarrassment that washed over her. She had never felt so...

like that, and the memory of being tangled up with Izzy would surely haunt her for days to come. The sudden rush of warmth in her cheeks wouldn't fade, leaving CC feeling more vulnerable than she cared to admit.

"Here, I'll bring the drinks. What did you want?" Izzy said casually as she stood up, her black hair covering just how much her ears had gone red. She was relieved she was successful in concealing her true feelings.

CC took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. "Um, just water is fine," she replied, her voice still a little shaky. She watched as Izzy walked to the kitchen, the ease with which she moved making CC's heart ache with a confusing mix of emotions.

CC reached for her phone. With trembling fingers, she shot Ava a quick message.

'i think i might like Izzy as more than a friend'

It wasn't long for her friend to text back.

'You finally realized?'

The shorter girl couldn't help but feel a pang of surprise at her friend's casual reaction. Had she already known something?

'what dp yoi mean?' CC quickly typed out, her fingers tapping anxiously on the screen as she waited for Ava's reply.

'Cmon, I know you can be stupid but not this stupid. The way you look and talk about her is way different than when you do it to anyone else.'

Before CC could respond, Izzy returned with two glasses of water, interrupting her thoughts. CC quickly pocketed her phone, trying to push aside the rush of emotions that Ava's words had stirred within her, and the realization hitting her that she in fact has feelings for the girl in front of her.

She handed CC a glass, their fingers brushing slightly. The brief contact sent a spark through both of them, and they quickly pulled their hands back. "Thanks, Izzy," CC said, forcing a smile as she accepted the glass of water. She couldn't let Izzy see the turmoil raging inside her, not when they were friends now.

"No problem," Izzy replied, taking a seat beside CC once again.

As they settled back into their study session, CC couldn't shake the nagging feeling in the back of her mind. she had no idea how she was going to do with this new found information. And would Izzy ever feel the same way? As far as she knew, her reaction to the fall wasn't as flustered as CC's. At least not that she could see.
