"You didn't have to-" I start as Pema puts a plate full of food in front of me, "Don't say that, Yuko. We love having guests here!"

"Okay..." I move to put a spoon full of food in my mouth, but I see Bolin staring at me out of the corner of my eye. I put my spoon back down, "What?" I glare at him. The other table conversations fall silent.

"Oh! Nothing! I just think it's great that you've decided to join Team Avatar."

"Trust me, it's not a permanent position. I'm only here until Amon is gone and dealt with."

"But, why not? I'm sure we could all become good friends! I bet we have so many things in common!"

"I really don't-"

"You spend a lot of time at Narook's, right?"

"Yeah, I guess but-"

"Me too! I love his noodles!" He grins, "See! We're already getting along!"

"Yeah... Definitely." I roll my eyes. The conversations around the table start up again and I am left alone. After a minute, I push my unfinished plate of food away and stand up from the table, "It's getting late. I should get going."

"Oh, it's fine," Pema says, "We can have a room prepared for you to stay the night."

"No! I mean... No, thank you. I wish I could, it's just- I should probably go." I rush out of the room and I can hear their murmurs of confusion as I go.

The smell of the ocean hits my face as I step out into the early night. I walk over to the steps leading up to the temple and sit down. I watch the last boat going back to Republic City.

"Do you mind if I sit here?" Asami – the woman I had briefly been introduced to earlier – looks down at me.

"Do whatever you want." I shrug my shoulders. She smiles and sits down, "Bolin says he's sorry for making you feel uncomfortable."

"I wasn't uncomfortable."

"Then what would you call what just happened?"

"I'm just not a people person," I explain.

"And why is that?"

"Why so keen?" I cock a brow. She smiles, "Well, I think if you're going to be joining us that we should at least get to know each other a little bit."

"I can't trust people. It's that simple. I'm not here to be friends with all of you. I'm here because I made a promise."

"And you can't make friends along the way?"

"I would rather not. I'm not very good when it comes to maintaining relationships."

"You want to talk about it?" Asami keeps her gentle gaze on me. I sit and think for a second before saying briefly, "I hate this place. Republic City. That's all I'll say. So now if you could leave me alone that would be great."

"Okay..." Asami stands up, "But I think you should know that we aren't bad people. It wouldn't hurt to open up a little bit." I listen to her footsteps as she walks back to the temple.

After a few more minutes, I walk back to the dining room to see that everyone is still gathered around the table. I walk in without a word and sit back down in my seat. I duck my head down and move the food around on my plate to distract myself.

"So, Yuko. Have you decided to stay?" Pema asks. I look up from my plate quickly, "Oh-uh yeah. I'll stay the night... Don't worry I'll be gone before the sun rises."
