"Name." The officer stares blankly at me.

"Yuko."

"Age."

"Seventeen."

"Do you have any identification on you, Yuko?"

"No."

"Are you a Republic City citizen?"

"No."

"Where are you from?"

"Somewhere else."

"Look, kid. It would be easier for the both of us if you would just cooperate." The officer groans.

"I am cooperating. I answered all of your questions, didn't I?"

"Yuko, do you have any parents or guardians we can contact?"

"You wouldn't know them."

"Argh!" The officer groans and stands from his desk. He grabs my jacket collar and yanks me out of my seat.

"Hey! Let go of me!" I pull out of his grip and punch him across the face, knocking his hat askew.

A bunch of other hands grab me from behind. They drag and push me down a bunch of hallways until we reach a series of barred cells.

"Are you gonna put me in one of those?" I taunt. I get my answer when one of the doors swings open and I'm shoved in, "We're not done with you." One of the officers juts a finger through the bars at me.

"Oooo, how scary!" I wiggle my fingers dramatically, "I'm shaking in my boots." I deadpan.

The man scoffs and turns back the way we came.

"This is just great," I grumble and sit down on the concrete bed. I look at the cell across from me to see a woman staring back at me.

"What?" I spit and she seems to be taken aback by my tone, "I was just going to ask what got you landed in here?"

"Well, it's a funny story really." I start sarcastically, "I got arrested in the first place, for helping the people of Republic City – unlike the police. But to get in this cell specifically... I punched an officer."

"You're a fighter then?"

"I guess you could call me that." I nod in her direction, "What about you? Why are you in here?"

"I'm just a non-bender who was out after curfew. I'm waiting for my lawyer."

"Wish I had one of those. Maybe they could get me out of here without a prison sentence."

"So..." She leans against her bars, "Why would a girl like you come to Republic City?"

"Who says I'm not from Republic City?"

"I take it you had a rough childhood." She ignores my question.

I stay quiet for a moment, but decide to answer her, "Yeah. And I'm not going to get into the details with some woman I just met in a jail cell." I turn away from her and lean against the wall next to the bed.

"Do I know you from somewhere?" She asks suddenly.

I look back over at her, "I don't think so... I'm a pro-bender. Maybe you saw me in the arena."

"Yeah... Maybe." She squints her eyes as she looks at me. Her eyes widen and when her mouth opens to say something, footsteps come from down the hall and I expect them to belong to the same officer from before. But, it's a different one.
