Chapter 29

"Come in." Dr. Shin said when he heard the knock from the outside.

Seokjin came in with his head low. He is tired and mad.

"I assume you are here because of your surgeries?" Dr. Shin asked.

Jin just looked at him, almost crying, biting his lips. "Th-those w-were my patients." He said trying to control his emotions.

"Dr. Jeon is now the assistant head of the trauma surgery and he can decide who will be the best doctor to do any of the surgeries that we will receive in this hospital." Dr. Shin explained.

Jin bit his lip again. He breathe in a lungful of air before asking his next question. "Did you approve these?" He asked hoping the senior doctor did not.

Dr. Shin sighed. "I did. Dr. Jeon gave me the history of the patients and their charts. He told me what are the best ways to perform the surgeryand based on the details he has provided, the surgery should be handled by his team."

Jin gulped and looked away. "That is all I needed to know." He said then bowed. "I'll be going now. Thank you, Dr. Shin." He said then left.

He went to the operating room and watched how Jungkook performed the surgery, with his eyes almost giving up to crying. However, while watching, he saw how Jungkook and Yugyeom were perfectly in sync. Yugyeom is already like a surgeon, he is the best assistant to Jungkook.

Jungkook on the other hand is very quick and effective with the surgery. Jin notices how clean every cut was and how Jungkook hits all the correct spots in order to complete the surgery.

When Jin saw the surgery being completed, he went out of the watch area and was about to leave the operating room. He will not be able to handle another surgery as his emotions is starting to take over.

As soon as he left the watch room, Taehyung was washing his hands as he just came out from another operation.

"Jin." He said as he saw who was the person coming out from the watch room.

Jin looked at him and realizing who it was, bowed his head and decided he should just leave but Taehyung was quick in holding his wrist seeing the sad look on Jin's face.

"What happened, Jin?"

"N-nothing." Jin answered quickly and tried to turn away from him.

He held Jin's face to see him clearer but both of them looked when one of the operating rooms opened. They both stared at the person who came out, who was about to scrub out. Jungkook also looked at them, surprised obvious in his eyes but was quick in changing his composure as he removed his mak and gloves, throwing them at the bin.

Jin and Taehyung, on the other hand, were stuck in their position. Taehyung to finally see Jungkook, Jin for being angry at Jungkook.

After few seconds of looking at Jungkook, Jin pulled his hand away from Taehyung and looked at them both in anger before leaving the operating area.

Taehyung just stared at his retreating back.

"So, you're finally here." Taehyung said, not looking at Jungkook.

Jungkook used one of the towels to wipe his newly washed hands.

"I am finally here. I think it will be fun to see you everyday." Jungkook smirked.

Taehyung turned to look at him with questioning eyes.

Instead of answering more or providing explanation, Jungkook walked towards the exit but tapped Taehyung's shoulder first and said "hyung" and then left.

Jin took his things from the quarters and decided to just go home for the day. All his scheduled operations were taken by Jungkook anyway so there's no sense for him to stay as he also endorsed his other patients to the other doctors.

"Will you be going home now?" Hoseok asked when he saw Jin bringing his things.

Jin sighed. "Jungkook took all my scheduled surgeries."

"Jungkook?! He is here and alive?!" Hoseok asked with obvious surprise in his face.

"I'm not in the mood, Hoseok. I'll be going now." He said then left.

This the first time Hoseok saw Jin so drained with his duty. Even with 24-hours shift, he usually sees him happily and with Jungkook confirmed to be alive, shouldn't he be happier?

As soon as Jungkook came back to a room dedicated for him, he slammed the door hardly.

He sat on his chair and pulled his hair in a fist.

He is so disappointed with himself.

"Hey! Are you okay?" Yugyeom asked as soon as he entered the room.

"Y-yeah."

"Stop lying. What happened?" Yugyeom asked again.

"N-nothing." Jungkook answered turning his chair towards the glass wall of his room.

"Was it Dr. Kim?" Yugyeom asked again not letting Jungkook lie to him.

"He looks at me angrily." Jungkook said, resting his head on the chair's headrest.

"Weren't you going to talk to him? We've been here for 2 days already and all you did with each other is staring. He was still your best friend, I think both of you deserve explanation about each other's actions."

"It was never my goal." Jungkook said.

"Then what is? You want to suffer as usual?"

"My goal is to be the best trauma doctor in the whole of Korea. That's it." Jungkook answered.

"Obviously that includes competing with the current best." Yugyeom said sarcastically.

"What do you mean by that?" Jungkook asked turning his chair towards the man seated on his sofa.

"You just took two surgeries from him. Obviously you were competing with him."

"I am not competing with him. It is my job to take those surgeries." Jungkook reasoned out.

"They are emergency patients. They are supposedly their patients, not ours. As if I don't know what you are doing."

"I am not competing with him." Jungkook said again.

"Then if you're not competing, my theory is correct of why you took those cases." Yugyeom said.

"Then what theory is that?" Jungkook asked curiously.

"You only took those cases because you know that Jin is beyond his double shift and is on his almost 24-hour shift." Yugyeom said with a smirk.

Jungkook looked at him. "You don't know what you are saying. Prepare for our next surgery. The room should be good by now, right?" Jungkook said instead.

Yugyeom stood up. "I am happy hitting a nerve. You're still in love with him, huh? You still care for him that much."

"I am here for work." Jungkook said. "Please message me once the operating room is ready." He said while reviewing the chart of the next patient for surgery.

Yugyeom smiled while shaking his head before leaving Jungkook.

As soon as Yugyeom left, Jungkook sighed.

He looked at the glass wall again of his room. "I wonder if he went home already instead of hanging out with hyung."
