35- Family again

Rose McCracken stood at the front window of her house waiting for her son to be dropped off for the day.  Elaine and her mother had been written back and forth and decided that it was fine for Ralph to visit for the day while Theo took Elaine out on a proper date. 

Theo has been humming a song that Elaine had been playing on the piano for the last two days. It was stuck in his head.  He loved it though, she brough some sort of energy to the house with it.

 The couple and young boy walk up to the McCracken house, Ralph holding Theo's hand. 

"Mom!" Ralph yells out of pure excitement, running to his mother.  

"Hi honey".

Theo stood next to his girlfriend, almost protectively.  He wasn't sure why, maybe it was subconscious that Rose was hurting Elaine emotionally and he really hated that. 

"I'll pick him up at 5, he already had breakfast so he shouldn't be hungry for a few more hours," Elaine tells her mother. 

"Alright, thank you".

"Ralph Theo and I are leaving!"

Ralph runs out and says goodbye to them before running back inside with a dinosaur in his hand. 

Then that was it, the couple left awkwardly, saying goodbye to Rose.  

Rose hadn't been alone with her son in a long time, she wasn't quite sure what to do. He was playing dinosaurs for the first ten minutes and then got bored. He looked right at her.

"How has Hogwarts been? Do you like it?" she asks. 

"Yes, I have lots of friends!"

"Do you like staying with your sister and all of her friends?"

That was what she really wanted to know, she wanted to know how the children of the awful people she knew, were treating her son. 

"Yes, it's awesome! Daphne and Pansy always let me watch movies with them and Blaise always gets me a treat when teacher says I had a good day. Sissy says that Draco really likes having me around, he just doesn't know how to say it," Ralph shrugs. 

"That's good, what about Theo?"

Rose watched as her son's eyes lit up, "Theo is my best friend! He likes to play dinosaurs with me.  He's always stays with sissy when she's sad, he's really nice to her".

"That's really good, I'm glad," Rose said to her son. She was actually really happy to hear that her daughter seemed to be in a good relationship. She was praying that they actually loved each other and that it was nothing like her relationship with Otis.

She just wanted what was best for her kids always, even if she didn't show it in the past. Maybe one day they could be family again. 

After a nice lunch date, Elaine and Theo made it back to the house, where no one was. Everyone had gone out for the day so the couple could relax. Elaine sat next to Theo, staring up at him in awe. He was playing the piano effortlessly. Turns out, he took lessons as a kid so he was showing off. Elaine scoffs at him. 

"I can't believe you've known how to play this whole time! You could've taught me!"

Theo laughs, "I'm sorry, I just love your thinking face so much. You're so cute when you concentrate, I wasn't going to ruin that". 

"You're lucky you're cute Theodore".

"Don't full name me pretty girl, I just wanted you to learn on your own".
