CARVERRESIDENCE [JANUARY15TH, 11:57AM.]
"MA,IMWORRIED."Semaji voiced his concern to his mother in a hushed whispered tone.
For weeks now, ever since the loss of their baby, Dovani had been drifting further and further away, her once vibrant spirit dimmed by the weight of sorrow. Semaji had tried to reach out, to comfort her in her pain, but each attempt seemed to only push her further into herself, leaving him feeling helpless and alone in his own grief.
It's been a while since she sat down after being released from the hospital. Since then, she has been getting back into her music and becoming more comfortable performing again. Semaji felt like Dovani was getting back so fast, but he saw every day how she never really stopped. It has been two weeks of continuous activity for her, she hasn't taken a break for two weeks.
"What's wrong son?" His mother yawned on the other end of the phone.
"She's not eating, she's barely sleeping. She pushes me away when I try and talk to her. She's hurting herself more, ma."
"Do I just leave her alone? I just," He sighs, rubbing his hand down his face then leaning his head back. "This shit is hard to look at, you know? Her— Our baby was taken from us and we have no choice but to deal with it. But, she isn't dealing with it."
"I know, baby. But, this is not a time to leave her alone. It's a time for comfort. Support. Show her you're always going to be there, even if you both are hurting and struggling."
"It's like this nigga broke her down in everyway possible and I don't know how to fix it." He once confessed, teary eyed. The situation hurt him because his once bright and beautiful girl was now dim and shallow. Not even a small smile crept up on her lips once.
"I can't make my baby smile anymore. Like this shit is breaking my heart, mama." His voice cracks then immediately clearing it.
His mother listened to the silence in between pauses that he took. Her heart broke for her son and his girlfriend. She wouldn't wish this pain on anyone; not even her worse enemy. "Maji, all you can do is hold her hand. Show her that her pain isn't just hers— it's yours to endure too. You both lost a child. As the baby was forced from her womb, her experience may have been a little more brutal, but you understand."
Semaji nodded, his eyes glistening with unshed tears as he absorbed his mother's words. "I know, Ma," he whispered, his voice barely a whisper in the quiet of the hallway. "But I just feel so helpless to her pain. Everytime I bring the shit up, she shrugs it off."
