THE MELODY OF J.Cole's 'Dejá vu.' played throughout Dovani's beauty room as she blended the concealer into her skin backstage. Preparing for one of her first show of her 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind' tour, had her nerves doing backflips. She's only been an artist for almost two years and she has made Billboards Hot 100 with her first album reaching fourth place.
The door opened, the stage manager came in, doodling on her clipboard.
"Dovani, you're up in five." She nodded before heading out the room. Dovani's nerves shot up even more. In the era of her career, she's only preformed in front of large crowds and amount she can count on one hand. She completed her makeup by officially setting it with setting spray and cleaning up a bit before she got the two minute warning.
Standing up and pacing back and forth in a continuous motion, her mind racing with a bunch of things and not being able to think straight. Even the small performances, she stares at herself in the mirror and gives the same pep talk.
"You got this, girl." Dovani breathes out breathlessly, her heart beating in her ears.
"You top four, bitch, nobody can't top you as a new artist." Flipping her hair in the mirror, a smile appearing on her face. Flashing herself a motivating smile and fixing her earpiece that plays the music when she's on stage.
"Dovani, you're up." The stage manager opened the door and kept it open for her.
The artist known as Vana walked out of the room, her heels clicking against the concrete floor under the stadium. She could hear the DJ, Dorian announce her name, getting the crowd hype. The music to her first song, "Damage" started to play. The conveyor belt moving the artist up towards the stage.
Taking deep breaths, she whispered to herself a prayer, praying that God looked over her throughout the first show and throughout the entirety of the tour.
"Amen." She whispered.
The crowd roared with cheers and screams. Dovani smiled and waved at the crowd until her cue came to begin singing. Preforming always gave Dovani the boost and confidence she needed. She was a shy girl growing up and majority throughout high-school but her senior year is when she discovered that she had a talent for preforming and singing. Singing gave her the outlet she felt like she didn't have anywhere else. Not with her family and not even with her friends. But, soon after graduating high-school and being almost finished with college, she felt like the music industry was in need of something— or more like, someone.
Her.
She held a strong opinion that the industry needed a little bit of Dovani's touch to switch up the scenery a little bit, and that's exactly what she did. Even though, the artist has only been in the industry less than two years and her first album being on Billboards Hot 100 just after a couple weeks of dropping? She was just getting started.
After the first three songs were done, they had time for a quick outfit change and a brief water break. She was sweating her hair out but she knew she could still rock a sweated out wig, just applying some more glue to keep it from sliding off her head for the rest of tonight's show. The crowd was ready for her to shower some more of her musical love on them so once the outfit change was complete, she went back out and gave the crowd what they deserved.
