TAYLOR RESIDENCE
[A WEEK LATER,
3:42 PM]...
"HE GOT SO BIG!" Dovani cooed at her bestfriends baby, Kareem who they were now allowed to see after the 30 day distance from everyone to atleast build their immune system.
"He's chubby too, oh my gosh I'm gonna melt." She sat the baby in her lap and played with him, shaking his little arms, seeing the most adorable smile ever.
"He eat like a mothafucka too. Fat ass luh' boy." Asante mumbled about his son which made Envee smack him in the back of the head. Wincing, turning toward an annoyed Envee.
"Don't comment on my baby weight. You fat just like him if we being serious." The whole group laughed at the insult. Miara wasn't present, like they weren't expecting her to be.
Instead, Semaji brought his sister to accompany them since she had been begging to see the twins as well. Usually Steven and Sahara would've at least spoke once but the two were.. distant. Dovani saw the weird energy between the two.
"Ain't that right, mama fat man? Huh? Yo' daddy just being mean." Envee cooed at her son, admiring and kissing all over his chubby cheeks. Dovani admired the baby that was in her bestfriends arms.
"Baby, come get Ken. I think she hungry." Asante rocked a bawling Kennedy in his arms as they swapped babies.
With that, Envee hurried over to Asante, taking little Kennedy into her arms with practiced ease. The baby's cries softened as she settled into her mother's familiar embrace. "Hey, sweet girl, let's get you fed, okay?" Envee cooed softly to Kennedy, trying to soothe her with gentle pats on the back as she moved to the living room.
Kennedy's cries began to dwindle as they rocked together in the soft glow of the afternoon sun streaming through the window. Envee carefully adjusted herself on the sofa, preparing to nurse her daughter. The room filled with the comforting sounds of Kennedy beginning to feed, punctuated only by the quiet whir of the ceiling fan above.
Asante, meanwhile, watched them for a moment, his face softening with affection and relief as Kennedy's distress eased. He then turned his attention back to their other child, Kareem, who was cooing softly in his arms. Asante joined him on the noise- making though his eyes occasionally drifted back to Dovani and Kennedy, ensuring everything was settling down.
The afternoon lazily drifted by, with the soft sounds of domestic life filling the home: Kennedy's gentle feeding, Kareem occasional giggle, and the low murmur of a TV from another room. It was a simple, serene tableau of family life, the kind that Envee and Asante had dreamed of and fought for through their challenges.
