Finishing up with folding the washing I hummed softly to myself as I worked.
I had just folded the last linen when I felt two hands cover both of my eyes. I stiffen from the contact, "who is this?" I ask before feeling the recognizable ring on the person's finger.
I felt the person lean close to my ear, "it is just me, my love; no need to worry." The recognizable voice of Arthur whispered against the shell of my ear.
I smile, "to what do I owe the occasion, my lord?" I ask him.
"I have a surprise for you." He says.
"A surprise? For me?" I reiterate, "should I be worried, then?" I joke.
He chuckles, "not at all...do you trust me?" He asks.
I nod against his hands, "with all my heart, why?" I ask him.
"I'll explain later, but I just need you to keep your eyes closed, can you do that for me?" He asks and I again nod. He slowly removes his hands from my face. He must wave his hands in front of me to make sure I am not cheating as I feel something moving.
Before I know it I feel something in front of my face. It feels like a piece of cloth or fabric that he wraps around and ties at the back of my head. I adjust it on my face since he's covered my nose with it.
"Alright just to check...how many fingers am I holding up?"
I sigh, "I don't know, Arthur....5?" I answer.
He chuckles, "that was a trick question, my love; I didn't have any fingers up." He says and I swat his hand playfully as I pout.
"Your—mean." I say and he kisses my lips to transform the pout into a smile. He then took my hands and I trusted him blindly [quite literally] to guide me to wherever it is he wanted me to go.
He took the journey quite slow and I was starting to grow impatient. "Arthur you couldn't have picked a destination a little closer?" I ask him.
He chuckles, "it'll be worth it I promise, just a little ways more." He calls to me.
I huff with a small laugh, "you already said that 10 minutes ago." I comment but then he halts and kisses my lips quickly.
"I meant it this time." He says letting go of my hands and moving behind me. I feel him loosen the blindfold and he slips it off of my eyes.
It takes only a moment for my eyes to adjust, but when they do, I am amazed. 50 or more candles lit the small room up and I smiled. "Do you remember this place, (y/n)?" Arthur asks from behind me.
I let out a chuckle mixed with a sniffle, "remember it? How could I possibly forget it?" I ask him, "this was the place where you kissed me for the first time." I answer before looking back at him with a smile. "Who knew the king of Camelot, could be such a romantic?" I tease.
"Only for you, just don't tell anyone." He says with a chuckle, after all he had a reputation to uphold. He comes in front of me and takes my hands leading me deeper into the room. We sat down at a table and I looked over at him watching the candlelight flicker in his beautiful blue eyes.
"Why'd you bring me here, Arthur? I know you didn't do it—just because?" I ask him softly.
He smiled, "you caught me—" he says trailing off. He looked down at his hands for a moment, twirling the ring on his finger before looking back at me.
"(y/n), would you do me the great honor of...becoming my wife?" He asks almost hesitantly.
My eyes widen and I can't think seem to think straight, I was not expecting this at all. I knew it would happen someday, Arthur loves me more than life itself. I realize that he has been staring at me expectantly to answer for the last minute, losing hope each second I did not answer.
"Oh sorry...I'm—I'm sorry...yes." I answer and he just smiles and laughs relieved.
He takes my hand in his and he slid the ring onto my finger. He glances up at me once before he brought my hand to his lips and kissed it. "It's a perfect fit." He mumbles against my hand. I smile and move closer to him and wrap my arms around him.
I lean my forehead against his as I smile, "I love you more than the birds love to fly, Arthur Pendragon and I cannot wait to be your wife." I whisper and he closes the distance between us with his lips.
Arthur couldn't remember a time before I was in his life. That time seemed so distant now, another lifetime really; because now I was his life and forever would be.
