You sat with Bianca as the tournament began. Up first it Guglielmo de Pazzi and Giuliano de Medici. While you were rooting for your betrothed you knew Bianca was secretly rooting for Guglielmo.

You knew she loved him and you were one of the few people who did know. You supposed out of all the Pazzi, Guglielmo was the kindest of them. As the men mounted their horses, Bianca's hand reaches for yours and gripped it tightly.

You glanced over at her but said nothing. While you were worried for Giuliano, you also knew that he was a strong jouster. But you also knew the Pazzi liked to play dirty, not Guglielmo himself but just the Pazzi in general.

Before Giuliano's helmet was placed on he glanced over and caught your eye. You smiled and blew a kiss in his direction. He smiled at you, giving you a nod; you were wishing him good luck.

He was handed his helmet and he put it on as he took his place. He was handed the lance and he readied himself as Guglielmo also readied himself on the opposite side.

Bianca squeezed your hand, and you squeezed it right back. Your heart quickened as the men began; those few seconds were the most terrifying in all your life. The sound of horse hooves pounding the earth thundered in the depths of your soul.

1 second.....Giuliano approached.

2 seconds.....Guglielmo aimed.

3 seconds......Giuliano struck.

4 seconds......Guglielmo remained on his horse. His shield had been hit but he had held his balance.

Giuliano had not been hit what so ever; it had ended in a draw, you were relieved if you were honest. Because you knew if either had won, Bianca would have hated her brother or you would have hated her lover.

As the two men met in the middle of the field they bowed to Lucrezia Donati.

"You're a far better rider than me Giuliano, you could have killed me—why didn't you?" Guglielmo asked Giuliano.

Giuliano smirked, "yeah you're right I could have..."

"...but my sister would have never forgiven me." Giuliano said before departing from the conversation, leaving a very shocked Guglielmo.

When he returned to where Lorenzo was he hit him on the chest with his helmet. "It's up to you now, brother." He says as he walks off.

He gets pats on the back from his friends as they pass by. He doesn't really notice them, just as he sees his betrothed. You were walking toward him and he smiled when he saw you.

"You were holding back with your lance." You tell him of your observation.

"What makes you say that?" He asks as he pulls you in by your hips as he stared at you.

"Because I've seen you knock a man off his horse twice Guglielmo's size." You remind him.

"I was just having an off day—that's all." He justifies but you weren't buying it.

"You wanna know what I think?" You ask, "I think you held back because you knew Bianca would never forgive you, am I wrong?" You ask with a smile.

Giuliano sighed and shook his head; he couldn't have gotten anything past you even if he wanted to. "No you're not wrong." He admits.

Your smile grew wider finding it sweet that he threw the match for his sister's sake. The Medici may be arrogant, but they would also do anything for who they loved; even if it meant sparing a Pazzi. "My champion does have a heart after all." You say admiringly.

Giuliano frowned, "I'm not a champion—I didn't win." He says and you just laughed.

"True, you may not have won the match today—but you're a champion to me, Giuliano." You say leaning in to give him a soft kiss.
