"Melodyyyyyyyyy," James whined and plopped down next to Thea on the sofa of the common room. Thea rolled her eyes putting her book at her side giving her full attention to the boy next to her.
"What is it James?" she asked annoyed, if Thea hated something more than James yapping about Lily, it had to be her being interrupted during her reading session.
"Halloween is near.........what do you want to wear?" Thea gave James a blank face and then got up from her place taking her books with her. "If you are going to discuss about costumes early morning then please do it with someone else."
"But Melody! My love, my heartbeat the best singer and the best quidditch player in this whole world." James ran after Thea shouting praises as Thea ran to the Library.
"James I don't even play quidditch!" Thea chuckled her heart racing as the words said as jokes touched her heart's depth. Her pace matched her heart, James hot behind her heels. "I know you don't darling but please hear me out." Knowing that she would never win she gave up and turned around to face him.
James bumped into her his hands on her arms securing the two of them on their feet. He chuckled while her face burned red, she noticed how he had changed his cologne into something less strong. He didn't smell like the usual grass, broomstick polish, butterbeer, sweat, tea, cinnamon and home.
He too took notice of her. The dark circles that covered her eyes were hidden behind failed attempts of makeup and swelled-up red eyes. If anyone didn't know her they would say she was high. But James knew his girl, he knew she was crying till late at night mostly because of stress and he knew that the dark circles were because of crying till late at night.
He was always observant of her, apart from the part where she was deeply in love with him. And the fact that him spending time with Lily was the cause of her tears. Noticing the closeness Thea moved away from his touch. A cover of red-coated her cheeks.
Jame frowned at her actions, he knew how she was touched starved and always needed physical touch. He held her wrist and pulled her close to him hugging her close afraid to her go. He was confused about her actions, his Thea would have never denied a warm hug from him, especially in the mornings.
"Tell me what happened melody. Tell me why you were crying your eyes out and why haven't you slept a blink. Don't you dare lie to me." Thea didn't know from where exactly she would gather the courage to tell him to fuck off. Each day passing by seemed like an unfortunate eternity.
Each day hurt her the possibility of seeing James as her husband was dimming as seconds flew by. The thought of maybe that he would realise vanished as soon as she would see him with her. The possibility of him being no one to her raised to 80 per cent. And that scared her.
"You know me enough to figure out why Jamie." she hoped that he would forget and make a pass on the topic. "I know, but I want to hear it from you." his response only made her sadder. She decided that this was enough. Enough of lies. She wanted to tell the truth.
And so she did, her heart getting ready to pour out the amount of love and hurt that she ever received only from him. Ready to fight for him, ready to make a run for a life far away from this mess with him.
"Okay James Potter here is the truth, I have been looking miserable because of y-" she was cut short when the voice of a certain redhead echoed in the empty hallway. "What are you two doing?" her voice was full of doubt and anger.
Thea wanted to squirm out of his grip but instead of letting her go, he wrapped his hands around her shoulder instead. A small tired smile was on his face as he waved to his girlfriend. "Nothing Lil's just asking little old Thea about her whereabouts. She seems to run away from me every time I approach her like a cat."
Lily didn't seem convinced her arms crossed and forest green eyes narrowed at the shorter girl. "James Sirius was calling you about some package. Said it's important." Lily lied and watched as James made a sprint towards the common room panic screaming through his veins.
With each step Lily made towards the brunette, Thea took a step back knowing what was coming next. "I know that the three of us are good friends Thea. Stay away from my boyfriend and I am speaking this as a concerned friend." Her words were laced with anger and envy.
"But he is my best-" Lily cut her off as the brunette looked at her with offence. "Do you think I am that dumb Thea? I see the way you are so utterly in love with him. He doesn't love you back so back away from James. He is my boyfriend Thea." and with that walked away.
Thea stood there with guilt, sadness and anger. Her mind was screaming at her. This is where she knew she had to draw a line.
She had to tell James the truth, It was now or never.
