I nearly cried at the sight in front of me, to witness such kindness. Mason had personally wrapped three blankets around me before going to the back and getting a bucket of hot water and gently placing my feet in them. It felt so good to finally be able to feel something. The pilot had a cup of coffee in his hand before offering us some. We took the cups hurriedly. I swallowed quickly, burning my mouth a little in the process. I felt the liquid slowly travel through my esophagus and warm my stomach. I sighed in relief at the warmth. Before bringing the cup to my face, attempting to warm up my face.
Mason opened up his carry-on bag and pulled out a plain black cotton long sleeve and a pair of casual black jogging pants. "Wear this," he whispered between gulps. I thought I'd heard him wrong, especially since he didn't have any authority in his voice. "... no that's fine, you wear it." I told him, trying to smile a little. "Just go and change," he told me, more sternly.
I ignored him, we're wasting time. "Do you know how we're going to find Vanessa? And well... Tyson too now?"
"We don't have to find them. I know where they are." The pilot pitched in.
"What? How do you know?" I exclaimed.
"The air hostess, Regan is holding them captive at the ski resort." He said in all seriousness.
At this point, I couldn't tell, I looked at Mason and he just looked confused. "That's impossible."
"No, when I went in search for the two missing folks she came right after me when I was returning. She told me that she'd heard them in the ski resort. Maybe they'd broken in because they were cold? I'm not sure. But when I followed her, she pushed me into a room and locked me in. Lucky for me, I was able to break the window and climb out, then I ran here as soon as possible to warn you, folks." He recalled the entire situation quickly while pacing.
"What that's crazy! Why would she do that? Do you think that's where she took Vanessa?" I blurted not believing that something like that could even happen.
"Well, when I saw her this morning before all of you boarded I saw her with a newspaper clipping that had a picture the four of you, perhaps on your engagement. I thought maybe she was just fangirling. Maybe she's after some money?" The pilot guessed.
"Ugh, I knew she was bad news, the way she was all over you!" I rolled my eyes. Yelling at Mason.
What am I doing, this is not the time to get defensive Sarah!
Before he had anything to say in return, I pulled off two layers of the blankets and stood up. "Let's go then, what are we waiting for? We have to get them."
Mason finally spoke, "Your in no condition to go with us. You'll just slow us down. The pilot and I will go." "Do you know how much she's after?" He asked the pilot.
I was offended, "No, absolutely not. I'm coming I don't care if I'm slowing you down. If you don't let me go I'll just go alone after you. And you are not going to give her money! She doesn't get a reward for this ridiculous stunt! She's one person, and we are five! Well, three here. But five altogether! We can defeat her no problem!" I yelled, trying to sound confident.
"Sarah, It's not a reward it's a ransom! This can be serious, not like some stupid tv show or movie. Grow up! We don't know whether or not she has a weapon, or others working for her hiding at the ski resort. We have to take precautions." He shouted, but in an oddly calm tone.
A tear slid down and my face scrunched up as I slid back down into my seat, "I know," I whispered looking down at my feet in the now semi-bloody lukewarm water.
Suddenly there was a pair of large hands on my sore foot pulling them out of the water. I winced as the cold air hit my foot. Mason looked up and our eyes met for a mere second before he wiped the foot dry with the blanket I had. He then opened the first aid box, taking out the supplies and cleaning the wounds. I watched him in awe as he handled my foot so delicately. He opened up the alcohol wipe and quickly placed it on the wounds. I flinched grabbing my foot out of instinct. He crouched closer and looked up into my eyes again. They looked concerned and reassuring. I let out a deep breath before nodding. He carefully blew lightly onto my toes, making them tingle leaving a trail of electricity throughout my body.
