My entire body rattled until I picked up the pillow I was sleeping on and threw it at nothing in specific. "What the hell, I'm sleeping!" I yelled groaning before shifting to the other side.
"Get up!" I recognized Vanessa's voice, "right now!" She screamed sternly.
"I swear, this better be important it took me forever to fall asleep," I muttered, rubbing my eyes and sitting up.
"You're burning up like the sun!" She continued screaming before shoving two tablespoons of some disgusting liquid syrup. I rolled my eyes at her ridiculous exaggeration. "On the plane, I thought it was just a headache. Ugh, I should've paid more attention." She continued.
"Stop beating yourself up. I'm an adult and I know myself, it's nothing. I don't know what you're freaking out about. You know my immune system is like, perfect." I tried to shoot down her worrying. Before opening my mouth up to release a large yawn.
"Yeah I can see that!"
I felt someone staring at me. I blinked several times trying to wake my eyes up. Mason was leaning by the door with his arms folded over his chest. He noticed me looking and dropped his arms and stood straight. What is he doing here?
I pretended not to care, and casually looked at Vanessa instead. "Can I go back to sleep?" I asked before muffling another yawn.
"No first swallow this, and drink this." She handed me a couple of pills and a cup of orange juice. I did as I was told.
"Ness' I'm gonna overdose on all of this crap."
"Pfft," She rolled her eyes putting her hand to my forehead and feeling my temperature. "Now eat this." She handed me a bowl of soup.
"Where the hell did you get all of this, it's like four in the morning, " I murmured glancing over at the digital clock on the nightstand. I leaned back with the soup in my hand, as I yawned once again, my eyes scrunching up. I felt my body relax until Vanessa shrieked, "Sarah!" I shot up, splashing the soup onto my exposed left leg. "Mothertrucker!" I screamed nearly cursing and jumping up. I breathed in and out quickly, trying to calm myself before sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"I just fell asleep! You didn't have to scream bloody murder!" I scolded. My back didn't have the energy to stand straight, so I laid back onto the bed. with my legs hanging off the edge. Suddenly, I felt a jolting cold, damp cloth on my leg "ah, that feels better!" I sighed in relief. "You should-" I'd started as I looked at my leg until I saw Mason.
He was lightly blowing on the burned area in between dabbing the cloth carefully. He was too close, and my slip dress had risen. I felt just as exposed as I was feeling the first time I'd met him.
I jumped back, plunging underneath the sheets. I clenched my jaw as the burn stung from the contact. "It feels better," I muttered looking down. He moved back and walked to Vanessa's side of the bed.
He placed the cloth on the bedside table, "I'll take my leave. Let me know if I can help with anything." He told Vanessa before walking to the door and mumbling a faint "feel better." Ugh, he didn't even genuinely feel sorry for me.
"Eat your soup. Right now," Vanessa grumbled handing me the soup once again. I groaned before taking a couple of spoonfuls. "Give him a chance," Vanessa abruptly uttered.
I was taken by surprise and nearly choked on the soup in my mouth. "I am." I lied.
"He shouldn't have left you there alone. But maybe he knew that you'd catch a ride with his friend. Or maybe something important came up. Tyson tells me that his business is his number one priority. Maybe he had an important meeting?" Vanessa rambled on softly. As if she was making excuses up for him.
