"Wh-what do you mean?" I stuttered, staring at him in shock. Mason, stood frozen not blinking, obviously taking a minute to process.
Blake caught his breath, and patted Mason on the back, "let's go, she's calling for you guys," he said softly.
"Let's go," Mason finally said sternly, his voice suddenly running cold. Blake ran ahead as Mason laced our fingers together, pulling my hand gently, and starting to jog. I tried my hardest to run as fast as I could. But I'd never done it in a saree, and the petticoat restricting my legs was really just not helping. I was just glad not to be wearing high heels.
I felt bad. I could tell that Mason wanted to sprint there. But settled for lightly jogging with me in tow. I tried to pull my hand away so he could go ahead, but he turned back to look at me, his eyes glimmered with a little hurt as he held my hand a little tighter and slowed down for me. I squeezed his hand back. I just couldn't help wondering,,,
What could have possibly happened to bring the world's most indestructible woman on earth to the hospital?
I heard Mason's relieved breath; we were almost there as we turned a corner. We reached the limo just as I wanted to stop. Thank God I'd been working out recently or else I would have been winded a while ago. Lost back there somewhere among the trees in the distance. A little blob that you'd have to squint really, really hard to see.
Blake had the limo door open and ready. "I'm just going to check inside, and turn off the lights quickly. Sarah, do you need to go in?" Blake asked at the end, eyeing me weird. Oh shit, I'm on my period and I just ran-well, jogged.
"Oh yeah, I'll be quick." I felt so guilty going back inside.
"Here," Blake said, handing me a plastic bag. "It's Sana's clothes," he added.
I hurried to the washroom and opened the bag to find the largest pads available along with a long maxi dress and thanked the Gods for Blake and Sana. They make a darn smart couple.
I quickly cleaned, I would not have survived any longer than five minutes without a pad. I tried not to picture what would have been, a murder scene on my sari. I exited the washroom, "you really went for the biggest size possible eh?"
Blake rubbed the back of his neck, shrugging, "better safe than sorry?"
"Thank you so much," I said genuinely before leaving the premises.
I sat in the limo, and he closed the door behind me before going and turning on the ignition and starting the drive right away.
The glass partition was rolled down, "I have your phones here. Did you want them?" Blake asked softly. Mason shook his head.
"We're okay, thank you." I answered instead and scooted closer to him, interlacing our fingers. Rubbing the back of his hand with my free hand. I wanted to know what happened. Something at the Sangeet? Oh how bad I wanted to call Ma, Dad, or Vanessa to know what happened. But if Mason didn't want to hear about it now, then I had to respect that. It's his mother. We just needed to get to the hospital A.S.A.P. and it sure doesn't help that we're in the middle of nowhere. The closest town was half an hour away, and I didn't even know which one they took her too. Probably something close to my house right? Sarah, stop overthinking it. We'll get there when we get there. I sighed.
Mason shifted unexpectedly, he didn't let go of my hand as he slid down the seat and laid his head on my lap. Our fingers were still in a tight embrace and resting on his chest. I used my free hand to play with his hair.
I hope Mrs. Wilson is okay. I wasn't a big fan of the woman if I'm honest. But she's just a woman with authority, power, and she knows what she wants. I couldn't be mad about that. She had a rough way of doing it sometimes, but it was effective. I mean look at Mason and me now. Who was I to judge her ways.
