Steve made a quick stop at a place called "Subway", I'd never been there before but he said that it would be a good place to get something fast.

I told him the basics of what I like on a sandwich and he went to get it. Within a couple of minutes, he was back with a young woman beside him. She looked familiar. I stepped out of the limo.

"Well, it's been a while," she said directed to me.

I stared at her trying to figure out who she was.

She crossed her arms over her chest and popped out her hip, in an annoyed stance. "Camilla's sister, the youngest, Casey?"

"Oh Casey. Damn you've grown up fast." I squinted at her face.

I remembered Casey as a young girl that hid in the shadows of the long bush of hair that covered half of her petite body. She'd blossomed into a pretty teenager now, with a surprising bob cut.

"Yeah, it's been a while, but not that long. We met at Cam's wedding last."

I honestly didn't remember seeing her there at all. Crap.

"Of course, you don't remember. You were following Cam like a lovesick puppy." She rolled her eyes.

I frowned, "I wasn't lovesick, I was over her and completely on board with the marriage."

She laughed, "Mason, you most definitely weren't over her. Just because I was short and quiet, didn't mean I wasn't there to see it all. I honestly didn't think you'd ever get over her after a year passed and you were still just hooking up with a bunch of girls. But you got married. So that's good, I'm happy for you."

I wanted to argue with her about supposedly being hung up in love with Cam even after her wedding but didn't.

"I'm not actually married," I muttered instead.

Her brow twitched upwards in curiosity, "yeah? How do you explain your wedding ring and all the news going about."

I sighed, "come in." I told her before sitting back inside the limo. I didn't want anyone to overhear. "We technically aren't married." I started, my voice low and quieter than usual. "We were just about to sign the papers when she fainted," I told her the short story.

She scooted closer and rested her hand on my arm, and I looked up to meet her kind brown eyes that were similar to Cam's. "I might be old-fashioned or clueless, but that still sounds like a marriage to me." Her voice was soft. "Sure, you didn't sign the papers, but everything else, like the vows were said. That's the important part. You two are attached in spirit."

At first, I felt a part of me flutter with happiness and joy because at this point no matter how much I wanted to prove that the surprise marriage was to save Cam's marriage, it was more about me not wanting to let go of Sarah. I wanted her close, all the time. Even now, I missed her presence.

But then it stopped as the cold hard truth made its way back into my brain. "No, we aren't attached in spirit. We don't love each other." I paused. I did love her, though. "She doesn't love me." I didn't meet her innocent eyes.

"Did she tell you?" Casey whispered.

"No, but... she loves someone else. I heard her." I murmured.

"But she didn't say it to you. There might be a misunderstanding. Haven't you ever had a misunderstanding nearly ruin something before?"

My head whipped up to hers. Misunderstandings were what started me and Sarah's relationship with hatred.
Was it possible that I had just heard something wrong? Maybe come at the wrong time?
