Chapter 5

That night Sarah, Raven, and Rafe sat in the back yard with more takeout than they could finish in a week, just laughing with each other.

"You know, this is nice, never in a million years did I think I'd be sitting around with Rafe, laughing with him," Sarah smiled at her brother, causing Raven to smile to herself, "Never could get me to admit that sober though."

"So what's changed since we've been gone?" Raven smiled, taking a drink out of her can.

"Topper and I broke up," Sarah shrugged causing both Rafe and Raven to choke.

"WHAT?" Raven accidentally yelled and Sarah just shrugged again.

"Yeah he became a total ass after you guys left," She rolled her eyes, "JJ got arrested again, but whos shocked."

Raven smiled to herself and just took another drink, it was comforting that even if she didn't really talk to JJ anymore, he still was the same.

"Have you uhm, see my brother at all?" Raven asked, pracing for a no, but a small smile formed on Sarah's lips.

"Yes, actually, he got a job at Heyward's store, have you heard from him at all?" She asked and she just shook her head no.

"It could just be because we have horrible signal here, phone plans haven't switched yet," Rafe reassured Raven and she just nodded.

When the two were about to leave OBX, Raven when to see her brother to try to salvage anything that they still had, and she thought it was better, but clearly it wasn't because he wasn't the person to just not text.

"It's almost four in the morning," Raven looked down at her phone, letting out a small laugh.

"Holy fuck, my flight is in like two hours," Sarah let out a laugh, causing Raven to raise an eyebrow.

"You're not staying?"

"Oh no, it's too hot, totally going back to OBX," Sarah let out a small laugh and Raven nodded.

The three hung out for the next two hours, the sunrise liminating their tired faces as Rafe and Raven yawned in sync.

"I gotta get going, I'll miss you so much," Sarah pulled Raven into a tight hug.

"I'll miss you more," Raven hugged her tightly, then Sarah hugged Rafe.

"I'll miss you, too, believe it or not," Sarah smiled at her brother and then walked towards the driveway, taking the rental car.

Rafe wrapped one of his arms around Raven, pulling her close to him, then kissing the top of her forehead.

"Sleep?"

"Yeah," Raven nodded, the two walking inside not even a second later.

Rafe lead Raven to their bedroom, she was almost falling over because of how tired she was, making Rafe laugh a little. The second Raven hit the bedroom she fell on the bed, falling asleep almost immediately. Rafe laid next to her, pulling her into him, Raven's arms subconsciously wrapping around him.

"I love you so much, Raven," Rafe kissed the top of her head.

They had accidentally slept the entire day away, the two of them were at peace in each others arms. Rafe had woken up before Raven, he could see the dark circles under her eyes were still dark, so he left her alone. He had started to wander around the house, finding something to do. He ended up messaging back and forth with the house builders, the house was going to be done in a matter of days. There was no sane bone in Rafe's body that would think he'd be in this situation, especially with Raven. He had spend the past ten years purposely hating her just to find out that she was what he had been longing for. He heard footsteps behind in the hallway, causing him to snap out of his accidental daze on the piece of art.

"Raven go back to sleep, you need it," He softly spoke.

"No, I'm good, I've slept the past fourteen hours, I refuse to sleep anymore," She stifled a laugh, causing him to turn and look at her.

"You havent had much sleep since we've been here, have you?"

"No, but, it's a new place, I'm just not used to it, I think, I don't know," She let out a sigh and he gently wrapped his arms around her.

"Raven, we have all the time in the world, go to sleep," He whispered, kissing the top of her head.

She just slowly nodded, while her face was pressed up against him. She savored the hug, letting it hold for as long as he'd let her not knowing that he was willing to stand there all night if it meant he just got to hold her. She slowly pulled away, walking back down the hallway back to the main bedroom, Rafe watching her every move. He slowly walked into the library, beelining towards the journals his great grandmother had kept, taking them all of the shelves. He knew that if he just replaced them with other books, he'd be able to take them when him and Raven left. He didn't understand why Raven was so interested in  journals, but, he'd do anything to make her happy, and these journals made her happy. He carefully packed them all up, making a whole three hour thing out of trying to make sure he didn't scratch any of them. Raven had woken up again, staring at the ceiling for ansecond because exhaling out of her nose. She slowly got up and moved her hair to one side of her neck, then walked into the hallway. She heard rustling in the library causing her curiosity to spike. She saw Rafe slowly packing up all the journals and raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"What're you doing?" She asked, watching his hands place a journal into a bag.

"Packing these up, so that we can take them with us," He flashed a smile at her and she let out a small laugh.

"Since when did you care about the journals?"

"I don't," He shrugged, placing another one in the same bag, "But, you do, so, you can read all of them, as many times as you want, for the rest of your life."

"You know, that's really sweet, and highly unlike you," Raven let out another small laugh, "What'd you do that you feel the need to do something nice?"

"I didn't do shit, they make you happy, and I want you happy," He nodded causing her to smile again.

"Interesting," She smirked, wrapping her arms around him.

"Am I not allowed to do something nice for you?" He raised an eyebrow, gazing down into her eyes.

"I appreciate what you're doing," She nodded and he gave her a small smile.

"Good," He kissed her forehead, then her lips.
