The Cyclops rises and looks down at us. I turn. Proteus turns. Huh, he doesn't look so monstrous up close. He just looks like a human with one eye and tusks. I did not expect this. I draw back. I also didn't expect him to speak.
"Hello." I say.
"What do they call you?" Proteus asks.
"I am called Polyphemus." He says.
"My name is Proteus." Proteus says.
He turns to me.
"It would be rude of me to ask for your name. So, I'll let you give it to me when you're ready. We have plenty of time." He puts his hand in front the doorway.
"Well thanks, that is considerate." I say.
"Tell me, why are you two in my cave?" He asks.
"Why don't you tell me why you're in Syracuse?" I ask.
He lets out a breath that blows my hat off. I look up at him.
"For the food mostly." He shrugs.
"You need to leave our city." Proteus says.
I look at him. That probably isn't the best way to deal with a cyclops but whatever.
"Are you threating me tiny Proteus?" He asks.
Proteus takes out his sword. I take out my sword as well. This is not going to go well.
"So, you came here looking for a fight?" He asks.
"Leave our city now!" Proteus yells.
"You humor me." He laughs.
"Uh Proteus? This might not be the best way to-" I start.
Proteus slices Polyphemus leg. He looks down at Proteus. He swings his hand. I push Proteus and myself out of the way. He slams it down. I get up. I guess we're fighting. He turns to us.
"I suppose you weren't lying come forth brave humans." He says.
