"How long has it been?" Rex yawns.
"I don't know." I say.
It's been hours. I'm sure of it. I hear the waves rising. I hear the sea's cries. I turn. Poseidon appears. His tentacles wrap around the deck. His eyes narrow. My eyes widen. Why is he here? I can only guess. My heart was leaping out of my chest. I grip the ship's deck.
"Look!" Rex yells.
"Well... I did have my suspicions someone was going to die." Poseidon says.
"Oh no..." Rex breathes.
The entire crew falls silent. Proteus is carrying a body. No... no, no! Please! No! It's...
"Sinbad." Poseidon says.
"What?" I breathe.
~~~> ~~~> ~~~>
I let out a breath. Proteus was bringing the body to the ship. Ruthlessness is mercy upon us. The entire crew has fallen silent and many of them were starting to cry. Was he really that important to them? It doesn't make any sense. He blinded my son. He is a monster just like him and yet they cry for him??
"Is Echidna dead?" I ask Proteus.
He nods solemnly. I look down at his body. A gash so big his guts would have spilled out. I turn to Marina. She's crying. Her tears would fill the sea. One of Sinbad's arms was broken. Proteus lays the body on the ship. He actually killed Echidna. I didn't think he would kill Echidna.
But there's something else. Did I not notice it before? Why am I feeling guilty? I grip the trident. The ocean shakes. He did what he was supposed to do, why does that surprise me? It shouldn't surprise me. Marina falls to her knees. She looks up at me.
"Save him!" She cries.
Her look... I grip the trident. There's something about it that gives me the chills. I raise my trident. Fine. It starts blowing. The body rises slowly up. The ocean's water flows up to me. It wraps around his body. I place my trident on his body. It starts glowing.
"Awaken." I say.
