Elias EastonSometimes, life seemed to finally work in your favor. With everything going just as planned and almost effortlessly.
And as much as I loved these moments of complete harmony and peace, I also dreaded them because the downfall that came afterward was just as big or even worse, so that the pain was unbearable.
It was the most brutal thing in the world to have everything you ever wanted in one moment, only to lose it all before you could even blink.
In my case, I finally had a pretty stable and healthy relationship with Anthony, I moved back home with Sam and got along with my parents again. As for Leah and all the other people that wanted nothing else but to get on my nerves, they seemed to have all taken a break from annoying me.
And I simply wondered how long it would take for my peace to get interrupted because I never wanted it to stop.
"You are awfully quiet today." Anthony commented as we drove to his parents' house. The last challenge we had to face.
"We aren't actually going to an amusement park." I rose an eyebrow at his statement.
"I know," Anthony rolled his eyes. "But I thought that you'd take it as easy as you did with my friends."
His friends were a complete different story.
However, in terms of his parents I couldn't imagine them ever even tolerating me. And I wouldn't blame them. Because if someone would've kidnapped Sam and hurt him in all the ways I hurt Anthony, there was no way I would be able to sit down with the kidnapper's parents and make some small talk.
I was already impressed by his friends almost treating me as if I didn't just make their best friend's life a living hell for the past few months. Because again, I wouldn't have it in me to do so.
Therefore, they had my full respect.
"I managed to take a day off on Sam's birthday." Anthony informed me, while at the same time trying to change the topic and lighten the mood.
And it worked.
Sam's birthday was something I never paid too much attention to.
Obviously we ate cake and I got him some presents but the "celebration", if you could call it like this, never even lasted an hour, and it had become one of my main priorities to change that.
And celebrating it with Anthony would make this day even more special to him, since he seemed to see him as more of a parent than Leah and I, which slightly hurt. But I knew that it was my fault.
"What exactly did you tell your parents?" I asked as we neared our destination.
"The truth." Anthony shrugged his shoulders. "But obviously I left some parts out and you should too. I know if someone asks you a question that you want to give an honest answer but if you tell my parents how I almost got killed or everything you did to me, it will make it impossible to gain their sympathy."
I gripped the steering wheel tighter until my knuckles turned white as Anthony reminded me of my actions. At this point, I didn't recognize my past self anymore. It seemed to be a complete different person, I couldn't identify with. And I was sure this was a good sign and I was glad Anthony acknowledged it.
However, apparently I was wrong about Anthony's perception of me because the moment I wanted to drive into Anthony's parents' street, I slammed on the brakes. With a sharp turn I reversed as fast as I could, the gravel crunching beneath the tires.
"What are you doing?" Anthony asked shocked about my sudden action.
"Shouldn't I be asking you this question?" I was unable to look him in the eyes, as I stopped the engine a few streets away.
