Elias Easton

I wanted to say that it was a carefree and enjoyable dinner, but it wasn't. There was a suffocating tension as we ate. Well, not suffocating for me. I was feeling completely at ease. However, Anthony was pale like a corpse and didn't dare looking either of his parents in the eyes.

So, this basically meant that I had to do all the talking, which was weird because I didn't expect to be the centre of attention tonight. I thought that I'd be just sitting there, while enjoying some good food and observing my Baby finally smiling again, because he got to see his parents again.

A smile was probably the last thing I would see on his face tonight.

"I have a son, whose name is Sam. Anthony saved his life," I mentioned out of the blue, after telling his parents all kind of stories such as how we met, what I did for a living and so on. Of course there wasn't any truth to what I was saying. I hoped that this comment would be enough to loosen up the tension a little bit and make Anthony feel better.

"What did he do?" His mom, whose name was Sarah, asked me as if Anthony wasn't sitting at the same table, which made me sigh out in frustration.

I hit Anthony's leg with mine, who was fortunately sitting right next to me as a sign to finally open his mouth, which he normally never managed to keep shut. But now that he had the opportunity to talk as much as he wanted, he didn't make any sound.

Of course, exactly in this moment Anthony filled up his glass with water and started drinking it up slowly, which made me roll my eyes. I didn't know why he decided to be this childish tonight and not show at least a little bit of maturity.

I get it, if he's ashamed after his father saw us in such an intimate position or that he had to lie to his parents that he wasn't kidnapped, but fled out of love.

However, his parents were one of the kindest people I've ever met. They wouldn't be this distant and cold for long. But in order to lighten up the mood a little bit Anthony had to finally break the ice and say something.

"I guess it's better when Anthony tells you what he did himself," I directly put the attention on Anthony this time, so that also his parents were now looking at him waiting for an answer. Anthony sent me a death glare from the side, which I just ignored.

"To cut a long story short, Sam got shot, layed in coma for a few months, I treated him and did a little surgery. And yeah he woke up," Anthony explained matter-of-factly, which made me want to hit him very badly. I put him in the best light and gave him the possibility to start a proper conversation with his parents, who were doctors as well and therefore would be surely interested in what Anthony would have to say.

"Your son got shot?" His father David, who was the complete opposite of Anthony with light brown hair, equally brown eyes and tanned skin, asked me shocked and the attention was again all on me. My plan worked out just great.

However, this awkward conversation was interrupted as my phone suddenly started ringing. I didn't have the time to talk to someone right now and wanted to hang up. But as I recognized the number my blood froze in my veins and I forgot to breath for a second.

The lucky man who got to taste Anthony's wrath in the form of a cake in his face during our wedding. This wasn't a good sign at all. But ignoring his call could be dangerous. Especially if I didn't know what he planned.

"I'll be back in a sec," I told them, standing up from my chair and leaving Anthony alone with his parents in the dining room.

As I stood outside of the house, where nobody could hear me, I didn't hesitate and immediately accepted the call.
