Elias EastonThis night was exactly how I expected it to be. Boring and until now quite unsuccessful. Together with Eric, who still didn't really talk to me, I endured every single conversation with people I either didn't remember or didn't like.
It was tradition that every year all the mafia leaders met in peace to create new alliances or sort out a problem. However, Leah and Jace weren't present today, which wasn't a good sign.
My family wouldn't have been the most powerful and wealthiest mafia without good allies. We had a ton of allies, that preferred cooperating with us instead of being our enemies.
To keep those alliences going, it was our duty to be present during this really boring get together, that honestly only stressed me out. But as the leader I was the one that was responsible to represent our family and sadly not my parents anymore.
Until now, those meetings always went by quite peaceful, which was a big surprise to me every year, thinking about the fact that we were all coming from different mafias and some of us were bloody rivals. Still, I always took my best men with me, because you never knew, if this year wouldn't be different from the previous ones.
While talking to a rather important partner I had to suppress a yawn, because everything he and his wife said was uninteresting and again boring. But I guess it wasn't entirely their fault. I would prefer laying in my warm and cozy bed with Anthony in my arms right now.
Anthony must probably die of boredom too in that very moment, but I still wanted to have him here with me. Although just like Eric we didn't really talk, his presence lifted my mood a little.
"Did you hear that, Honey?" Mr. Jones' wife, a 60-year-old woman with dyed red hair and an expensive coat, suddenly exclaimed worried, placing her hand over her mouth.
Eric and I exchanged questioning looks, because aside from the loud music, and people chatting and laughing we didn't hear anything else.
"Please go back to our car and ask Paul to immediately drive you home." Mr. Jones, a small man the same age as his wife with a bald head and a little overweight, told her in a serious tone. She instantly drank the last bit of wine that was left in her glass, before running to the exit.
And she wasn't the only one to do so. Many people were either panicking, running away or even taking out their gun.
"What is going on?" Eric asked irritated, while we both took out our guns too.
"We heard a few gunshots. They weren't loud, but I'm sure that it was in this building," Mr. Jones explained, looking around for the potential attacker.
My men all came to join Eric and I, everybody ready to shoot.
"Okay, the party is over now," I said decisively. "Everybody in the cars, we will head home immediately!"
I didn't want to lie, but I was more relieved to finally leave this place, than scared about whatever was currently happening.
"Uhh, Boss...?" Kai, one of my guards and Eric's lover, asked with a shaky voice, as he approached us slowly. He was lightly shaking, his face was completely pale and he looked terrified.
"Is everything okay, Babe?" Eric took him into his arms with a worried expression, caressing his back gently. "We'll leave now, you don't have to be scared."
My eyes wandered around to check if everyone we came here with was there. Then I hesitantly looked at the table where I left Anthony only to see...that it was empty?
I blinked a few times to see if I was hallucinating and analyzed the whole room, but he was nowhere in sight.
All the colors drained out of my face and my hands balled into fists.
