Anthony Lawrence

With a heavy sigh, I checked my appearance in the mirror one last time and let my hand run through my hair to loosen it a little, before stepping out of my room.

I have spent my free time laying in bed and staring out of the window, because even though in my head everything seemed cloudy and rainy, outside the sun was shining bright and the sky was crystal clear.

I wondered, if I would ever be able to even go outside to enjoy the weather and the nature or if I will end up being what I already was. A prisoner, that was encaged and never let free.

The kind woman, who still never talked to me had brought me a classic suit in black and a small note from Elias in which he told me that I should be ready by 8 p.m.

He even wrote a nice message that if I refused to make myself ready, he would still drag me to his parents' dinner. No matter, if I only was in Boxershorts or even naked or looked like I just woke up. And after having put shame on him in front of his parents for my appearance, he wouldn't give me anything to eat for the next two weeks.

I never read something lovelier and charming, it made my heart melt how romantic and sweet he was.

Not.

I also checked several times, if the engagement ring was still around my finger, because I didn't want to cause more trouble.

I decided that for those few hours I would be reasonable and polite. But only because I was tired of being a rebel or fighting against everything all the time.

It was exhausting. Nobody who knew me well enough would have recognized me, the always nice and generous guy, who never hurt anyone neither physically nor mentally. This week really changed me and I was afraid that the more I was forced to stay here, the more I would continue to change.

"I have to admit, I didn't expect you to really do as I say," Elias greeted me as I exited my room. "But it would have been funny, if you would have eaten dinner with my parents in just a pair of boxer shorts. I'm sure their reactions would be priceless," he laughed, but I knew that if I really would have done so, he wouldn't even have shown me the slightest hint of a smile.

I made the right decision. For once.

Elias wore a dark gray suit that looked as expensive as mine and as always he looked overall perfect from his neatly styled brown hair to the shoes that perfectly matched his outfit.

"You look gorgeous," he complimented me, stepping closer. I held myself back from telling him the same, because I didn't want to build any kind of relationship with him.

His eyes wandered to my hand and he obviously made sure that I had the engagement ring on, smiling proudly as he saw it. Then his eyes analyzed my whole appearance in general. Because of the intensity of his stare, I instantly felt naked and uncomfortable, what he either didn't seem to notice or didn't care for. I think the second option was the right one.

"We should go," I interrupted his observation and made a few steps away from him. "Your parents are probably already waiting."

"Didn't expect you to be this eager to meet them, but that's alright with me. Anything my precious, little doctor wishes for," he laughed, having clearly noticed my lie.

I wasn't looking forward to eat dinner with his parents at all. If they were just like their son or even worse, it would be a hell of a dinner for me. Additionally, came the fact that I was his fiance. This meant that the pressure was even higher for me.

Elias on the other hand seemed totally relaxed like he was doing this every day and it wasn't anything special to introduce a person to your parents, you just randomly engaged with and didn't even love.
