"Ellen, Baby I'm home."
She said nothing, instead nearly ran into his arms, burrowed her head against his neck.
"Honey what's wrong?"
She told him tearfully.
"Why didn't you call me?"
"It was the middle of the night. I didn't wish to wake you. You'd been working. I knew you'd be home early today any road, so I just got Vicky instead."
"I'm so sorry I wasn't here with you. Middle of the night or not, I wish you'd have called," he told her as he led her to the sofa. He scooped her up into his lap as if she were a child in need of comfort, stroked her hair, held her close.
"There's to be a memorial service later on. I told John to let us know the details. Id like to attend if i feel up to it."Just don't push yourself," he said , his hand drifting protectively to his unborn child. He looked down suddenly, startled at her changed appearance.
"You were barely showing when I left. Now you've got a definite baby bump there. I'm missing out on so much," he remarked sadly.
"It isn't as if you have a choice. No sense complaining. There's nothing to be done about it. I know you'd be here if you could."
"You're an incredible woman, Ellen Nesmith. Most wives wouldn't be so understanding. They'd be downright pissed instead. Well now that the tour is over I'm gonna try my damndest to be here more. I'll come home from the studio every day as early as I possibly can. No more trouble making that causes any delays. I'll be so easy to get along with they'll think I was replaced by one of those pod people in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."
"I appreciate the sacrifice Luv," she teased gently.
"I think we should hire someone to help you and Vicky with the house and the cooking too. It would be better for you to take things a bit easier from now on.""I won't argue with you there. Vicky's not really much help, and it's getting difficult for me to keep up with it all."
"We'll start looking right away then. Right now though I could use a rest, and im sure you could too. Let's ask Vicky to keep an eye on Christian and go lye down for a bit."
"Just lye down?"
He chuckled. "You're always thinking about jumping my bones."
"It's been weeks. If I hadn't had other things on my mind, I'd have jumped you already."
"It's nice to be wanted, Baby. Come on; let's talk to Vicky, then we'll make love, take a nice long nap and make love again."
"What about dinner?"
"Vicky can do that too. No wait-I've had her cooking. We'll order something in," he suggested as they climbed the stairs slowly, hand in hand.
