Day of the vineyard
Six fucking weeks.
I haven't seen my baby in six weeks.
This has been the worst six weeks of my life. And to make matters worse, the same day she left me, my father had an emergency surgery. So you can imagine how my day went.
Today, just like any other day, I woke up and went out for a run. When I came back, I found Mia in the kitchen, making breakfast. She's been staying with us for a few weeks and I know she is here because she is being mothers little spy. But she has come in handy giving me little updates on Louise. I was glad to know that she was asking how my father is and how I am, but now, Mia has been quiet selfish with information on her.
"There you are! I've been looking for you" she shouts across the big room.
"You've found me, what's up?" I ask, taking out the one AirPod I had in my left ear.
"So I was thinking..." she starts making me groan.
Nothing good ever comes out of her when she starts her sentences like that.
"Before you start! Let me explain" she defends herself .
"I haven't said anything Mia" I say in our mother tongue.
"Yet! Listen, I was thinking. It's Saturday, and we have a public holiday on Monday." She says holding back her excitement.
"Go on" I urge, taking a seat on the island stool.
"We could all spend the long weekend at mama's."
"Okay?" That doesn't sound like a bad idea. "Who is we?"
"Tammy, Jimmy, Kath, Rico, Jenny..." I laugh at the thought of Jenny and Rico in the same laugh. These two are always at each other's throats when they are together. It's entertaining to watch really.
"Rico and Jenny in the same place? Wouldn't miss it for the world" I reply, making the smile on her face widen.
"Great! Be there by two."
"Can't, I have work. the best I can do is 5" I reply, already heading up the stairs.
"5 is good too" she responds and I can hear the excitement in her voice.
I honestly hate moments like these. When we all get to spend time together like old times, but it's not the same without Louise. But now, I have to watch Mia is cuddle up with Tammy, Jimmy with Kath and Rico purposely pissing Jenny off so he can get a reaction out of her. I used to enjoy all this before, but now, I feel like the third wheel and outcast.
**********a few hours later**********
"So the most important thing after everything is done, is maintenance." I listen to one of my software developers explain to our newest client. "The program continues to function normally through software maintenance and testing."
"What do you mean maintenance? Will that attract another cost?" The lady asked and I fight the urge to roll my eyes.
I really don't know what people expect when they come here. Do a fucking research! Read a book! It doesn't have to be an engineering book, you can just Google to get a-little knowledge.
"Yes ma'am, the costs will arise from several sources, including bug fixes, performance optimization, security updates, and compatibility improvements" my intern, David explains.
