Poetry: Lonely

We all need, a friend in solitude

Feeling so alone and deserted

With people standing all around you

Should I trust someone?

Should I stay off to myself?

Writing poetry is a guilty pleasure of mine, it always has been. Ever since the shop opened Jessie got us some cliental, we only had a few people within the first week but we had to start from somewhere. While I wasn't working or sweeping, I'd write poetry in my book.

So I began writing out how I felt, lonely, that was the name of the poem. While I wrote I had complete tunnel vision for the words on the page. "Girl, if you don't start sweeping" Iesha's voice came from the front of me.

I lifted my head to see her staring at me with her golden hazel eyes in front of the desk. I stood in the desk putting my pen down. "You and that book, whatcha writing anyway" she asked me.

"I'm not finished with this poem but I don't know if it's something you'd like" I frowned my face like it was nothing.

"No come on Justice, it can't be that bad" she whined.

She swiftly snatched the book off the top of the desk. I tried snatching it from over her shoulder as she turned from me. "Lonely" she read in a dreadful tone.

She turned around while staring at me with an empathetic look. I hated people feeling pity for me, I grabbed my hat pulling it down trying to hide my face.

"Justice, you know you can always talk to me" she gasped. "You know what, we should go out tonight" she spoke in a cheery tone.

Jessie was finishing a clients braids. "Ouu are y'all going out tonight" she asked being noisy from twelve feet away.

I began to roll my eyes around in my head. "Nooo" I sung in an annoyed tone. "Don't get your hopes up" I said snatching my book back while Iesha was distracted with her mouth open.

She put her hands on her hips. "We are in the big apple, girl, I'm going out tonight, okay" she spoke in her cheery tone.

Heywood spun around to face us from one of the client chairs. "Wooo, I know that's right where we going?"

"There's a new nightclub I heard that be jumping" Jessie's client suggested smiling.

Jessie got all smiley and excited jumping on my arm from over the desk between us. "Come on Justice it will be nice to get out for once. You need a break from white-boy" she spoke with wit.

"No I'm not ready for that" I spoke direct.

Jessie scoffed as she braided the woman's hair. "You need a new man honey, that's what you need" she spoke with her smug know it all attitude.
