After finishing my first three clients, Iesha and I were off to lunch. The two of us got a taxi that day after collecting our checks from Jessie. Iesha paid for our ride to the mall foodcourt, while I was paying the way back. On the taxi ride she showed me her new colorful nail set.
Each finger had a rhinestone and different colors. I couldn't do hair with nails so decorative such as hers, I never knew how she did it. "Aren't they pretty" she sung.
"Yeah, she did a good job" I glanced from her nails to her smiling face. "So, I gotta tell you something" I said pragmatic.
She sat back giving me her full undivided attention. "J what happened?"
"You can't tell anyone" I said stern.
"Okay, ok" she whined sing-song. "What is it?"
"I'm serious, don't tell nobody my business, not even Jessie" I pointed stern. She tilted her head giving me a dry glare. "Ok, so last night I went on a date with Q's cute friend"
"Whaaat" she shrieked sing-song in the cab. The sweaty driver glared at us through the mirror. "Sorry" she hissed before grinning at me all wide eyed. "Justice, this is the best news I heard all morning, how was it?"
I nodded my head before speaking, I couldn't help but to curve my mouth. "It was—"
Before I could speak she cut me off out of excitement. "Ouuu it was good, real good. I can tell by the big smile on your face girl, your blushing" her voice was full of enthusiasm.
On our lunch break I gave her details, all about my night with Chris. On the way back to the shop she began jumping to conclusions. "Your finally moving on J, I'm so happy you can finally be happy with a man again"
"Wait, Iesha hold on now" I scoffed. "We are not together, you are taking this too far"
"Right, you're taking baby steps" she said with confidence.
"No, I'm not ready for a man in my life. You know this already" I said forcefully.
She shook her head in judgment and glanced out of her window seat. "I like Chris but I'm too damaged for someone like him. I thought he was going to get shot when those guys stepped up on him" I began to speak with emotion behind my words. "I thought about Lucky" I whispered.
"But nothing happened did it?" She raised her brows and I began to cross my arms.
The car stopped and so did our conversation. I tipped the driver on the way out of the car before heading back to the shop behind Iesha. The rest of our day ended like old times. We went to the movies, just the two of us. No Q, no Felicia, no Jessie, no Johnny and no Chris.
Although I couldn't help but to think of him. Watching the romance on the screen before my eyes. A Bronx Tale was the new craze. Everyone was talking about it, the New York love story being betrayed, made me want my own love story.
