DOVE 🕊

I avoided the cafeteria because of the crowds, so I headed to the college store instead to grab a juice box and a sausage roll. But even there, I always seemed to run into people - strangers, not friends or acquaintances. It was a bit unsettling, to be honest. Like the time I collided with Xavier, and he had ice cream all over his shirt! Mr. Rhoose, the ice cream man, was known for his passionate speeches about love, and I wonder if that had something to do with the unexpected connection Xavier and I formed. Maybe it was his reputation for spreading love and positivity that led to our chance encounter.

Now that we're dating, it's clear that something special was going on with that ice cream! Don't you agree? Or am I being delusional, yet again?

As I walked out of the store, I nearly bumped into someone, but I quickly moved out of the way. "Sorry," I said immediately. "It's okay," she replied. I looked at her and realized her face looked familiar. The way she looked at me suggested she was having the same thoughts. "Hey," she said. "Oh my gosh, I never thought I'd see you again. I'm really sorry again about your phone." Ah, she's the girl who stepped on my phone! I knew I'd seen that pretty face somewhere. "It's okay, I got a new phone," I said with a smile. "That's a relief," she said, smiling back. "I'll get going now." She nodded and waved slightly, and I reciprocated the gesture.

I had barely walked a short distance from the store when the same girl approached me again. "Where are you headed?" she asked. "Oh, I'm going to the library," I replied. "Me too! Maybe we can walk together?" she suggested. "Yeah, sure," I agreed. A smile spread across her face, seemingly appreciative of my company. "What year are you in, anyway? I never see you around," she asked as we strolled towards the library together. "I'm a sophomore," I replied, still feeling a bit nervous since I wasn't always comfortable interacting with new people or just anyone per se.

"Oh, I'm a senior sophomore," she said with a smile. She seemed like a kind person, despite her edgy appearance. "Oh," I replied, unsure how to respond. "You don't talk much, do you?" she asked, noticing my silence. "I just usually have nothing to say," I admitted, chuckling slightly. I figured I was only so free around Xavier. She laughed too, putting me at ease. "Come on, you can feel free around me, I'm Noelle, by the way," she said, extending an invitation for openness. "I'm Dove," I replied, appreciating her friendly demeanor. "That's a nice name," she said, her eyes sparkling with sincerity. "Thank you," I replied, feeling a sense of comfort around her.

When we arrived at the library, Noelle and I shared a table and continued chatting for a while. We even exchanged numbers before parting ways. "I'll see you later, Dove," she said with a wave, and I waved back as we went our separate ways. I headed to class, feeling anxious about the upcoming math test. Just thinking about it made me feel choked. I arrived at class a bit later than usual, still frustrated with the whole math situation. I couldn't understand why our lecturer seemed to take pleasure in making things difficult. It was as if he wanted to be disliked from the start, and he was certainly succeeding.

I just took a seat when someone immediately sat next to me. I didn't remember having someone sit next to me during math, but I immediately recognized the familiar scent of Xavier's cologne. I turned to my side and saw him already staring at me, his fingers drumming against the table. He wore a white shirt with blue character designs, black jeans, and black and blue Jordan sneakers, which matched the blue on his shirt. "What are you doing here? My test is..." I started to say, but our lecturer immediately  came in with a "good morning."

Xavier replied to me, "I came to write the test." and asked me, "Do you have a spare pen, pencil, and ruler? I didn't think it would begin so soon." I was taken aback, speechless. I handed him the spare materials he requested. He raised an eyebrow at the pink pen, and I couldn't help but laugh - it was the only color I had. "Are you serious?" I asked, still in disbelief.
