In America
Friday | 8:45 PM

"Agent Kai, summon your Captain to my office. There are matters of significance we need to address."

The voice belonged to a man in his early 40s, face hardened with experience, posture rigid with authority. Kai, used to orders barked more than spoken, simply gave a curt nod and turned on his heel.

Navigating the dimly lit corridor of the agency's operations floor, Kai glanced around, searching for his superior. The hum of low conversations and flickering monitors filled the space.

"Hey Jack, have you seen the Captain?" he asked, tone already weary.

Jack lazily pointed toward a tall figure chatting animatedly with another agent. Kai followed the gesture, suppressing a sigh. The pointed man was none other than Eunwoo, who, as always, was too absorbed in his flirtatious banter with Seojun to be helpful.

"Hey, Eunwoo," Kai tried again. "Have you seen the Captain?"

Eunwoo didn't even spare him a glance.

"Will you stop drooling over Seojun and just answer my damn question?" Kai snapped, irritation simmering in his voice. It wasn’t the first time he’d felt like a ghost in this place—asking, speaking, and being met with silence.

Eunwoo finally turned with a roll of his eyes and scoffed, "Really, Kai? Just fuck off," flashing him the middle finger like a teenager in a tantrum.

Kai’s patience, already on thin ice, cracked.

"Will one of you finally tell me where the hell the Captain is?" he roared, voice slicing through the room like a blade.

The agents around him flinched at the sudden outburst.

"...The rooftop," Seojun mumbled.

Kai scoffed in disbelief. "Wow. Unbelievable. What a damn team."

Without another word, he turned and made his way to the rooftop.

Rooftop | 8:59 PM

The night air was cool, almost soothing. A dark figure leaned casually against the concrete ledge, cigarette in hand. The smoke curled around his jawline as the ember briefly illuminated sharp features—cold eyes, an unreadable expression, and an aura that whispered danger with every breath he took.

Dressed in an all-black ensemble, the Captain looked less like a soldier and more like a reaper—calm, calculated, and capable of erasing an army without flinching. From a distance, no one would guess that this man could take down a hundred without blinking. But Kai knew. They all did.

“Captain. There you are,” Kai called out, breathless. “I’ve been searching everywhere for you.”

The Captain didn’t respond—didn’t even glance his way. His eyes stayed fixed on the horizon, as if the city lights whispered secrets only he could hear.

“Boss wants to see you. Says it’s important.”

A pause.

“Important?” The Captain’s voice was low, deep, laced with disinterest.

Kai nodded. “Yeah.”

A long drag. Then, “Alright. I’ll go. You can leave.”

Kai, already exhausted, let out a sigh and walked away—returning to whatever corner of the base still felt like his own.

The Captain flicked the cigarette into the void, watching the sparks fade into the dark. He tilted his head back, eyes tracing the stars through the thick haze of the night. It was nearly 9 PM. He had come up here after dinner, seeking a moment of stillness... but of course, solitude was a luxury not afforded to men like him.

Office | 9:04 PM

Knock. Knock.

“Come in.”

The door creaked open to reveal the Captain—composed, unreadable.

“You called for me?” he asked.

The boss, seated at his desk, handed him a thick file without a word. “Sit. Read.”

He flipped open the folder, scanning the first page with trained eyes.

“A new mission?” he asked calmly, though a flicker of curiosity sparked beneath the surface.

“Yes,” the boss replied. “Seoul. South Korea. You're leaving tomorrow. Take your team. It’s going to be long... and messy.”

Without waiting for a response, the boss rose and exited the room.

The Captain exhaled, long and silent. He closed the file with a soft thud and exited moments later.

He had known. The moment Kai delivered that message, he felt the shift. A new storm was coming.

And though part of him craved a place where no one would disturb him—a realm where silence reigned and loneliness wrapped around him like an old coat—deep down, he wondered...

Would this mission bring chaos?

Or would it bring something... else?
