Chapter 20 – Between Silence and Confession
POV – Jungkook
Yoongi’s words wouldn’t leave his head.
"Just confess your feelings to him."
The night had stretched endlessly after that conversation. Sleep mocked Jungkook, refusing to come. Every time he closed his eyes, all he saw was Taehyung’s face—those unreadable eyes, the soft lines of his lips, the coldness that had replaced warmth since that day.
By morning, his chest still carried that heaviness.

The Next Morning – College
Jungkook leaned against the locker, staring at the crowd in the hallway without really seeing anyone. His friends were laughing about something across the hall, but their voices felt far away. His mind was fixed on only one thing—Taehyung.
He saw him then. Professor Kim—Taehyung—walking down the corridor, books hugged to his chest. His expression was composed, unreadable, as always. Students whispered about him as he passed—his beauty, his mystery, the way he carried himself like someone untouchable.
Jungkook’s chest tightened. He wanted to go to him, to speak, to pour his heart out. But his legs wouldn’t move. Fear chained him in place.
Yoongi’s voice echoed in his head again.
"If you don’t say it, you’ll lose your chance."
Finally, Jungkook pushed himself forward, weaving through the crowd until he stood a few feet away from Taehyung.
“Professor Kim,” he called, his voice quieter than he intended.
Taehyung stopped, turning his head slightly. His gaze met Jungkook’s, sharp and cool, sending a shiver through him.
“What is it, Jungkook?” Taehyung asked, his tone formal, not an ounce of warmth.
Jungkook’s throat dried. The words he had practiced all night vanished into smoke. Instead, he stammered, “I… I wanted to talk to you.”
Taehyung’s brow arched, almost impatient. “About what?”
“About… us.” The word slipped out before Jungkook could stop it.
A flicker—something unreadable—flashed in Taehyung’s eyes. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by that same cold mask. “There is no us, Jungkook. You should focus on your studies instead of chasing illusions.”
The dismissal cut deeper than any knife. Jungkook clenched his fists at his sides, his heart screaming against the rejection, but his lips stayed shut.
Students had started watching them from afar, whispers filling the air like restless wind. Jungkook’s pride held him back from breaking down in front of them.
Taehyung walked past him without another word, leaving Jungkook frozen in place, his chest burning with frustration and longing.

Later That Evening
Jungkook sat on the rooftop of his dorm, legs drawn up, staring blankly at the city lights. His phone buzzed with messages from Jimin and Hoseok, probably asking why he didn’t show up for club night. He ignored them.
His mind replayed the scene in the hallway over and over, Taehyung’s cold dismissal stabbing him deeper each time.
“There is no us.”
Yoongi’s advice came back again, sharp and merciless. “Confess your feelings to him.”
But how could he? How could he confess when every word from Taehyung pushed him further away?
