Chapter 3 – "Unexpected Equations"

Tuesday, 10:15 AM – Seoul University

Footsteps echoed softly through the grand hallways of Seoul University as a young man strolled with his eyes glued to his phone, paying no mind to the path ahead.

His stride was calm—confident—but fate had other plans.

With a sharp jolt, he collided into a figure. He would've stumbled to the ground if not for two firm arms that caught him by the waist and pulled him into a solid chest.

"Taehyung...?"

The voice reached his ears like a forgotten melody. Taehyung slowly lifted his gaze—and time seemed to pause.

"Jungkook...?" he breathed, blinking rapidly as if he needed to convince himself that he wasn’t lost in some dream.

Before he knew it, Jungkook had pulled him into a tight embrace—desperate, genuine, full of longing. The world spun, but in that moment, only the warmth of that hug mattered.

Taehyung froze. His hands hovered mid-air, heart racing. He had missed Jungkook too—more than he’d ever admit. Sleep had been elusive for days, haunted by memories of that night.

"Jungkook..." Taehyung whispered again, uncertain.

Jungkook, realizing his impulsiveness, quickly stepped back, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.
"I—I mean, you…what are you—god, what am I even saying right now…?"

"Hey, hey," Taehyung chuckled gently, reading his flustered expression like an open book. "Breathe first, yeah?"

After a deep inhale, Jungkook composed himself and met his gaze.
"So… how are you? That day… you just disappeared. No message, no goodbye..."

"I'm sorry," Taehyung murmured. "I had something urgent to handle. You were sleeping, and you looked so damn adorable—I couldn't bring myself to wake you. But I left a letter… didn’t you get it?"

"I did," Jungkook nodded. "And I read it. By the way, that breakfast you made? Way too good. I couldn’t stop thinking about it."

Taehyung smiled, a genuine curl of his lips.
"Glad you liked it. So… what are you doing here?"

Jungkook scratched his head, a little sheepish.
"Uh, I study here. Final year, business department. And you?"

"I—"

Before Taehyung could reply, a firm voice interrupted.
"Mr. Kim! Why are you still standing here? I’ve been waiting for you."

An elderly man approached—stern, formal, but oddly respectful in his tone.

"Ah, Principal Lee. I was just catching up with a… friend. Apologies if I kept you waiting." Taehyung bowed politely.

"It’s quite alright, Mr. Kim. As you know, I’m Lee Kyun, the head of this institution."

Taehyung smiled and extended his hand. "It’s a pleasure, sir. I’m Kim Taehyung—you’ve heard of me, I presume?"

They exchanged a firm handshake. Jungkook, still standing aside, watched the scene unfold with wide eyes. Mr. Lee… showing respect? That’s a first.

"Jungkook, you know Mr. Kim?" the principal asked, glancing between the two.

Before Jungkook could answer, Taehyung interjected smoothly.
"Yes. By the way, Mr. Lee—when do I begin?"

Jungkook's brows furrowed.
"Wait… you're enrolling here?"

Taehyung smiled mysteriously.
"No, Jungkook. I’m not a student."

"What?" Jungkook blinked. Then why is he here?

"Mr. Kim will be replacing Mr. Park," Principal Lee announced.
"He’s your new mathematics professor, starting today."

Boom.

Jungkook’s world tilted slightly.
A one-night memory turned into a full-time reality.

"Let’s go, Mr. Kim. I’ll walk you through the schedule. Jungkook, you should head to your class."
With a last glance, Taehyung turned to follow the principal—leaving behind a silent, stunned Jungkook.

Time Skip – Math Period

The classroom buzzed with energy. Students gossiped, scrolled their phones, laughed without care—after all, their math teacher was on medical leave. No teacher, no rules.

Except one student wasn't part of the chaos.

Jungkook sat quietly, eyes fixed on the door. Thoughts racing, emotions stirring.

"Jin-hyung, look at Jungkook. Why is he so serious today?" Jimin whispered, nudging Jin.

Others followed his gaze. Namjoon leaned forward.
"Kook, everything okay?"

No response.

Suga remained unbothered—head down, half-asleep—or perhaps, silently listening.

Then the door creaked open.

Every head turned.

A man stepped inside in a sleek black suit, books in hand, radiating calm authority. His presence demanded attention.

"Good morning, everyone," a deep voice filled the room, instantly silencing the chatter.

"I’m your new mathematics professor—Kim Taehyung."

Whispers broke out like wildfire.

"Excuse me, Mr. Kim," one student spoke up. "Aren’t you a little too young to be a college professor?"

Taehyung’s lips curled into a confident smile.
"Maybe 28 is young—but talent doesn't care about age, does it?"

His gaze swept across the room… and locked onto Jungkook. A silent pause. Unspoken tension.

"Now, let’s introduce ourselves—might help us connect better."

Introductions followed. A few girls flirted openly, trying to catch Taehyung's attention. He responded with polite detachment.

Class ended. Taehyung turned to leave—until a voice called out.

"Mr. Kim?"

He turned. "Yes, Lisa?"

The girl looked nervous. Taehyung softened.
"You can ask anything, no need to hesitate."

"Can I… get your number?"

Taehyung offered a gentle, professional smile.
"I’m sorry, Lisa. That’s not appropriate."

And with that, he walked away.

Jungkook, who had overheard the exchange, felt an odd sense of relief settle in his chest.

Lunch Break

"Okay, seriously—Kook. What’s going on with you?" Jimin groaned, slamming his tray down.
"You’ve been zoning out since morning."

"Nothing," Jungkook muttered, expression unreadable.

"It’s clearly not nothing," Suga said, surprisingly firm. "Talk."

With a sigh, Jungkook finally spilled everything—from that mysterious night to today’s unexpected reunion.

"Wait wait wait—so the guy you slept with is… our math professor?" Namjoon asked, wide-eyed.

Jungkook gave a tired nod.

"Wow," Hobi whispered dramatically. "Straight out of a K-drama."

Rolling his eyes, Jungkook stood and left the cafeteria, ignoring his hyungs’ calls.

But inside?

Chaos.
