Chapter 7: "Where the Smoke Burns Blue"
POV: Jungkook
Knock knock
A soft knock echoed through the dimly lit room.
Jungkook, sprawled on his bed, lifted himself slowly. Since returning from college, he'd come straight to the Jeon family mansion-an unusual visit. His own apartment, cold and isolated, had felt heavier than usual. So here he was, lying in a bed that no longer felt like his.
He opened the door to find a maid standing nervously.
"Yes?"
"Young master... Sir is requesting your presence downstairs," she spoke with a timid voice, eyes lowered.
He nodded, dismissing her with a soft grunt.
"I'm coming."
As the maid walked away, Jungkook descended the stairs, his steps echoing in the quiet hall. In the dining room, his father sat at the head of the table, flipping through documents while his mother quietly served him dinner.
"Oh, Kook-come sit. Join us," his mother gestured softly.
Jungkook obeyed, sliding into a seat without a word. His mother filled his plate.
"So... how's college?" his father asked between bites.
"Fine," he replied curtly.
And then-silence. A silence so loud it pressed against Jungkook's chest. The clinking of utensils was the only sound that dared exist.
Dinner ended with his father's quiet goodnight and retreat to the bedroom.
Jungkook murmured a farewell to his mother and retreated upstairs. Once in his room, he locked the door and collapsed onto the bed.
It wasn't that he disliked his parents. They simply lived in separate universes under the same roof. They trusted him, and he never gave them a reason not to.
And at some point, without knowing when, sleep claimed him.

POV: One Week Later - At College
"Hey Kook."
"Kooook."
"JUNGKOOK!"
Startled, Jungkook shot up from his seat. All eyes in the lecture hall turned toward him with startled expressions.
"What happened, Jungkook? Do you need anything?" Professor Lee asked, frowning.
Jungkook blinked, then shook his head silently. He sat back down, cheeks flushed with embarrassment, glaring at his friends.
"What?" he hissed.
"We've been calling you for minutes. You looked like you were on another planet," Jimin muttered irritably. Jungkook was clearly not the only one annoyed.
Jungkook slammed his hand on the desk.
"Listen-my mind's a fucking mess these days. Don't test me. Leave me the hell alone."
He stood abruptly and stormed out, ignoring the professor's protests.
The hallways blurred around him as he walked with clenched fists. That's when it happened.
A breeze. A presence. A ghost.
Taehyung.
He passed by like smoke-untouchable, invisible. It had been a week since that night, and Taehyung hadn't spared Jungkook a single glance since.
It wasn't that Jungkook craved his attention. But this? This silent treatment-this pretending like Jungkook never existed-was cruel.
And the worst part?
