Chapter 35: Silena Valdez

Allie moved with unbelievable speed, but so did Echidna. Allie sliced and jabbed, and Echidna dodged all of Allie's strikes just in time.

You could tell that Allie was being extra careful to not get bitten by Echidna, for her poison is now deadlier than it had been before. Silena watched in fear as Allie flew into the air and shot down towards Echidna with remarkable speed.

Allie caught Echidna by surprise when she flew not directly at Echidna's head, but around her snake body until she reached the end of her tail. Allie grabbed Echidna's tail and swung her around and around and around until she threw Echidna towards the River of Fire.

Echidna screeched in pain as she suffocated and drowned while being burned. "How-What-?" Annabeth started as Allie walked back with sweat dripping down her face and taking deep breaths.

"The River Phelgethon heals demigods, but kills monsters." Allie said as she took a deep breath. She was bent over her knees while taking deep breaths.

Castor strode forward and had Allie lean on him for support. "How did you manage to lift her?" Jason asked in bewilderment.

"I used the wind to help me." Allie said.

"I've only heard stories about how great of a fighter you were, not just physically but mentally. Now that I've seen it first hand, I finally understand why you were given as much appreciation and gratitude that you had been given." Calypso said. Allie smiled lightly at her and said "Thank you."

"We really need to get out of here." Percy said after a pause. "Agreed." Leo said.

"Want to run to the doors?" Castor asked. "We would end up back in Eprius." Annabeth said. "Where's that?" Allie Grace innocently asked. "Greece." Piper responded.

"It's our best shot." Allie White said. Everyone sighed when they realized that she was right. "Then, let's get going." Hazel said.

As they walked to the Doors of Death, everyone was silent. They all strained their ears for the sound of monsters, but there didn't seem to be any. None of them wanted to be there, especially not those who had been there before.

Silena heard something behind her. She whipped her head around and was faced with an Empousa. Silena was flattened to the ground by a cheerleader with fangs.

She let out a screech, but the Empousa covered her mouth. The group turned around and saw the situation. "Get off of her." Percy demanded. "Percy, how nice to see you again." The Empousa mused.

"Kelli," He said with a snarl. "Get off of her." Percy demanded. "And what if I don't get off of her? Kelli asked.

"Either way I'm going to kill you." Percy said. He leapt forward and tackled the Empousa to the ground.

Calypso helped Silena up and held her close.

Silena slowed her breathing and took deep breaths. Percy easily stabbed Kelli through the heart and walked back over. "She is so annoying." Percy said with a roll of the eyes.

Everyone snickered and continued on. Silena held her mother's and father's hands as she walked.

They walked in silence, again straining their ears for any unusual noises.

After twenty minutes more, she heard a hiss behind them. She tugged on her father's sleeve and he turned around.

He took out his hammer and said "Go to the front."

Everyone turned around once again. While Leo tried in vain to kill the monster, Allie White froze.

She stared wide eyed at the monster. Allie lifted her hand and placed it above a scar on her neck.

"Stupid. Scythian. Drachnae." Leo said as he tries to kill it.

Then other charged, but Allie White stayed back.

There was a second Scythian Drachnae approaching behind the children, and so Allie White took a deep breath, unsheathed her dagger, and went in for the kill.

She leapt forward and, after surprising the drachnae, sliced her head off.

Then, she threw her dagger. It hit the drachnae in the heart and it shimmered into golden ichor.

She stood there, shaking in what Silena thought was rage, but soon realized that it was fear.

The adults walked up to Allie. She was still shaking while her eyes shone bright with horror. Castor placed a hand on her shoulder and said "You did it."

He smiled lightly at her. She was still shaking, her face whiter than paper. The adults looked at each other quizzically, and so did the children.

Silena and Sammy had a silent conversation with their eyes. "What does he mean by 'you did it'?" Silena asked with a raise of the eyebrow.

Sammy replied with a shrug, and then his eyes lit up as if saying "I don't know; wasn't she killed by one of them?"

Realization dawned on the children's face, and the adults seemed to have already reached that conclusion. "Let's, um, keep moving." Percy said.

And so, they continued walking. Allie White was holding her boyfriend's hand and they talked to each other silently. Piper, Jason, Calypso, and Leo talked quietly as they walked together.

Nico walked with Percy and Annabeth, but he stood more to the side. Frank and Hazel held hands and walked and talked, Hazel showing animated facial expressions as she did so. Sammy and Silena walked in silence at the front of the group.

"So, Sammy," Silena started. "What was it like, being trapped there?" She asked.

Sammy took a deep breath and said "Very, very boring." Silena let out a silent but hearty laugh. "What do you mean?" She asked with a smile. "I just sat in the cell with my mom and Auntie Piper. They were asked to get out a couple of times, but I was just there. Sometimes Nyx possessed me, which as you know is very weird, but other than that, nothing happened." He explained.

Silena took a deep breath. She had hoped for that answer. They were like family, Silena didn't even want to think of what could have happened to him while trapped in there. Thank the gods that it was nothing bad.

As they continued on, Silena and Sammy walked in silence. She strained her ears once again for any signs of a monster.

She heard shuffling behind them, but then realized that they were at the head of the group, and that the shuffling was their family. She took a deep breath and continued on. Silena turned around to see everyone.

Something was off...
