--Evelyn's POV--

I can't stand watching Lando sneak out of my apartment at night to go to these races. I've cracked when he came back covered in dirt from a fight breaking out. His lip was busted and he was exhausted when he had a race two days later. He can't keep this charade up.

Oscar walks into the apartment with an angry look on his face as he drops the shopping bags on the ground, "He's not going to like this," he says. I ignore his statement and drop to the floor to see what he got. I pull out a body suit and leather jacket and walks into my bedroom leaving him standing in the living room. He knocks on the door twenty minutes later and I open it as I curl my hair, "Evie, this isn't a good idea," He says as he adjusts the new jacket on his body.

"I don't care. Lando told you that he is meeting with the guys he has a deal with. I want to see who these scum bags are. Then we can see if we can find some dirt on them," I tell him as I brush my fingers through my hair to fix it. The race starts in an hour and I'm not missing it.

"How do you expect to do that?" he asks as I walk out of the room grabbing red lipstick. He follows after me groaning as I keep ignoring him. He grabs my arm before I get to his car and turns me around.

"I know some people and the less you know the better. Lando is too good for this shit and if you don't want to help then don't," I tell him. He clenches his jaw before looking at the sky and unlocks the car. I thank him and get inside plugging the address into his phone as he starts to car. The engine revving makes me smile. I never thought I'd love the sound of a car so much, "Is this the 750S Spider?" I ask looking at the interior leather.

"What the hell do you and Lando do together?" he asks as I sit up and push the mirror down. I use the light to apply my lipstick as he looks at me impressed.

"He likes quizzing me," I shrug. I sit back and watch the GPS going down.

"I've missed hanging out with you," he says making me smile as he stops at a light, "We haven't gone clubbing in a while. I think when we get home from the next race we should get everyone to go," he says.

"I've missed you too, Osc," I tell him with an upside-down smile, "How are you single? You are adorable," I tell him as he yells at me never to say that again, "Adorable is good. Girls like cutesy guys," I defend.

"No, girls like hot guys"

"You can be both. Next time we go out come to my apartment and I'll buy you the perfect outfit to find a girl at the club," I tell him. He seems a bit reluctant but agrees making me smile. The smile quickly falls when I see the drag race starting line come into view. He parks in a back alley so his car doesn't get fucked up by these animals.

I don't know why people love these races so much. The legal ones are so much easier to see and have fewer drugs lying on the ground. There are already groups of drunk people making out in the corner. It's like a stereotypical high school party for criminals and the lowlifes in town. The music playing is blasting as men show off their suped-up cars to women who walk by.

The group of people surrounding the parked cars looks identical to the one from before. I've known about Lando doing drag races for two months now and it's frustrating not knowing how to help him. I'm fed up with sitting on the sidelines and I feel like I'm failing as a girlfriend. Oscar has his arm around me again with his face covered as we move through the crowd. I see Lando walking with a couple of guys talking. I've never seen him not smile when talking about driving. He's losing his joy when it comes to racing and it's killing me. Oscar has noticed it too. When he gets podium at races now he doesn't celebrate as much with the guys. He just calls me and listens to me congratulating him in his hotel room. A group of guys offer us drinks and we decline as we try to get closer to Lando. I can tell by the look in Oscar's eyes that he is enjoying the extra attention from the opposite sex.

"How did that hookup go the other night?" I ask as he smiles at the ground

"Went pretty well and then I came out of the bathroom seeing everyone gone and a pissed-off Toto," he says as I laugh not even realizing he was left there. He made it to Max's and was there when Lando and I walked in. I didn't realize how long we were in the car.

I put my hand on his arm as he stopped me from walking into a circle of people around a truck doing donuts on the pavement. The rubber is burning on the ground as it skids along the ground filling the area with a light smoke, "I'll be right back," I tell him as he tightens his grip on me, "Osc, I'll be fine I just need to hear their conversation," I insist as I watch his red and black helmet walk into a building off to the side. I take his hand and put it in my pocket where I have a knife Lando got me for when I go out without him. His eyes look between me and the building before he lets go. I quickly move along the side of the group feeling his gaze following my movements.

I smile at a group of girls as they walk past and push the door open slowly. My heart is betraying me as it beats against my chest. I follow the voices in the dark warehouse. There are cracked windows above me letting the light from the fires lit outside to shine through. I use the shadows and follow them to a small light on the other side of the room. I get closer and widen my eyes as another light turns on. Lando walks out of the room talking with the man before he sees me. My eyes are glued to the man beside him as he whispers my name, "Dad?" I cry out as Lando turns his head.
