Max's house is packed. I've never seen so many people in one place before. Lando takes the tray of cookies I made and brings them to the kitchen as I shove my coat into his closet. Kyla comes running over and drags me away saying Daniel made jello shots. I happily follow her and smile at the guys as I see them, "Happy New Year's Eve, Eve," Daniel says taking a party hat and securing it on my head. I thank him as I fix it a little so the string doesn't cut my ear off.
"Happy New Year's Eve," I smile as he hands me the red jello shot. Max screams when he turns around and sees I made it. I laugh as he shoves an inflatable microphone into my face and sings along to the song playing. I down the shot and follow him into the kitchen where Lando is talking with Osc. I giggle and run over throwing my arms around him, "I've missed you," I fake cry as he rolls his eyes and keeps his arm on my shoulder.
"I think Lando is keeping us apart cause he knows we like each other more than him," He says as Lando fake laughs. Max passes his a jello shot as he grabs a cookie dancing.
"I love the holidays. I got P this giant doll house and she went crazy. I could have cried it was so cute," he says as we all happily listen to the tipsy man talk about his Christmas vacation. Osc went back to Australia and he ran into his ex-girlfriend. He was terrified but they just talked about their lives and moved on. I think there will always be a what-if for their relationship...if he wasn't in Formula One would they have worked out?
By the time I catch up with everyone, there is only an hour to midnight. Lando has been dancing all night with the guys and I've been talking with all the girls. It was nice seeing Heidi again most of the time she is too busy to come out. We were lucky two weeks ago. We talked about going to Maria's store for our dresses tonight. Max even let us invite her but she's going to her boyfriend's party across town. I hope they stop by. Kyla is about two drinks too much as she stands up and says we have to dance for the last hour of the year. We all join her and walk where everyone is gathered. The strobe lights he had for Halloween are now yellow and white. His house is beautiful during Christmas time. Their tree is huge and everything is so aesthetically pleasing. All the credit surely goes to Kelly. I can't see Max buying decorative pillows for their couch.
Lando spins me around as he walks over. I smile leaning into his chest, "What are you looking forward to for the new year?" he asks.
"I'm looking forward to seeing you at the top step of the podium more often," I tell him as his lips break out into a smile, "What about you?" I ask.
"I'm looking forward to waking up next to you every morning," he says making me blush as I shove my face in the crook of his shoulder. He rubs my back as he kisses my head, "It's insane how we have known each other for a little less than a year but I feel like I've known you my entire life," he says as I lift my head looking into his eyes.
"I love you too," I grin.
The song changes to Max's theme song and everyone in the party goes crazy. The music is drowned out by how loud people are singing along to it. Max is laughing as he holds onto Daniel's arm so he doesn't fall over. I will admit in my free time I watch the complications of all their friendship moments. I'm a sucker for a good bromance. Carlos takes over the music and tells us there are ten seconds to midnight. A giant projector is on the wall showing the ball dropping. Lando squeezes my side as we yell the numbers. The tension in the room is insane as people scramble to find the person they are kissing tonight. I hold onto Lando as Kyla darts across the room to grab Charles. He smiles seeing her and pushes the hair from her face as we chant 3....2.....1. I turn to Lando and happily kiss him as the single people in the room shotgun beers. His hands keep me close to him as he deepens the kiss never wanting to let go.
It feels like he's scared I'm going to disappear when he pulls away but when he does his smile grows as he looks into my eyes, "Happy New Year," He whispers as I press my lips to his again.
Confetti goes off around us while streamers are thrown. People are yelling, cheering, and singing to the music taking in the New Year. I can feel it's going to be a good one.
