The brothers are readying their boat for the journey to Goa, when they spot a smaller boat rowing to the beach. They see the Portuguese attire of the sailors, as well as the larger ship further away, signalling that it was a Portuguese ship.

Thesmaller boat makes it to shore, and a soldier disembarks and approaches thebrothers.

"Where is the Vedor?" the soldier asks.

The brothers point to the compound.

"Please follow me to see the Vedor," the soldier instructs the brothers.

The brothers follow the soldier. Royston is about to join them when another Portuguese soldier takes his rapier out and points it at Royston, stopping him from following the group.

Dhandehelu, seeing this, is about to intervene, when the first soldier stops him,  "an Englishman has no right to know about Portuguese business."

"I will be alright. Please join your brothers and the Vedor,"Royston assures Dhandehelu.

Dhandehelu is hesitant, but his first loyalty is to the brothers.
